I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think you will need one of the new HD receivers to get those channels listed as HD and possibly a HD dish setup. I'll have to try and research what all is needed to get the HD channels. Possibly just the HD dish will get you the channels in standard def quality with the regular receiver but I'm just not sure.

    Hey Jerry

I just upgraded to my 27" CRT TV to a 37" LCD 1080i HDTV. I wanted to upgrade my Pansat 3500sd to HD. I have been looking at CoolSat, Sonic View etc. What do you recommend? I don't care about PVR as much as I care about the best picture quality.

    Thanks Jerry

This is just my personal opinion so take it as that. I really enjoy the Viewsat I purchased about a year ago somewhat better than the Pansat I had before it. I feel the picture quality and overall stability of the receiver is better. This statement in no way suggests that I think the Pansats are a bad unit. I gave my Pansat to my daughter and son in law and it still is working great for them.

Sonicview is suppose to be a good box but I don't have any direct knowledge of them except what I have read.

Last comes the Coolsats---- They use to be a good box. Now all I see are constant problems with them. Bins that don't always work and owners that always have to manually enter keys even with bin file thats suppose to be auto roll. My suggestion on Coolsat is to forget about that brand.

I also up-graded to a LG 42 inch plasma TV a few months ago. I'm not worried about HD since the quality I get with my FTA setup is fantastic on it. I had several people who thought it was already HD because of the great picture and one of my wife's cousins has DTV HD and likes my picture better. So alot of that depends on many different things working together. I'm not one of those picky guys that just has to have everything HD. If the picture is clear and stable, thats all I need. My last concern would be paying out the extra money for the HD FTA receiver and then find out it doesn't work in a few months. There are too many changes going on right now in the TV transmission area so I'll just sit back and enjoy what I have for now and see what takes place in the next year.

Pansats have very poor support, such as keeping up to date with new bins. The coder, BL, also is the seller of pansats, so his response is that the buyer is doing something wrong, when it is the bins. Most of the pansats are having trouble now with B3V, they have seemed to have targeted pansats and nearly shut them down..

I would stay away from buying them,NO SUPPORT.

    Thanks Jerry,

Funny thing is I went to Wallmart and bought an internal HDTV antenna. I get 13 stations for free and the picture quality blows away my Sat signal. I also hear about DVB card that works on my computer and gives HDTV to my TV. People on Future-FTA have been talking about this since it cost $59 to buy. This is good for me since I have a multimedia machine playing on my LCD TV. Do you have any knowledge or comments on the DVB card

    Hey Jerry

I am finally hooking up my viewsat extreme that I bought last summer. I am using my Pansat 3500sd on a 2nd TV now. I was on Future-FTA and downloaded loader 2 but when i run it I keep getting an error failed to start because MODEM32.dll was not found. I have tried re-installing five times and it doesnt work. So I can't even move onto the next step with out this file. Can you help me

This is just a guess. That error usually happens from trying to run the files directly out of a zip file location. Try this and see if it helps. Make a new folder on your hard drive and name it Viewsat. Then open the zip file you downloaded with the loader in it and EXTRACT all the files to the new Viewsat folder. Then try running the loader again. Any bin file download in zip or rar format should be handled in the same way. Like I said this is a guess so I hope it helps.

thanks Jerry I did a google search and found it was missing the DLL I downloaded and added in new director and it worked fine. I will tell you something after 2 hours of playing with my Viewsat Extreme the EPG is more freindly, I am picking up more channels and I like the search feature. I see why you handed down your 3500 to your daughter I did that with my son tonight as well!

GO VIEWSAT GO..... just come out with HD version soon

Yea, I was going to suggest trying to install the DLL if it was actually missing. Glad you got it going. When I first started into this FTA stuff, my impression was that all the major brands of receivers were about the same and that the only difference was user preference. Once you own a few different brands, you begin to see which are better. I always thought the Coolsat was one of the better ones but after seeing the constant problems with them , You couldn't give me one. The Viewsat 8000 (HD) was suppose to be out a few months ago. I haven't looked to see if that actually was released.

thanks Jerry I managed to install to b-80 version now do I tried to install the new bin file but the download wont start for some reason.
Do I have to uninstall the old version bin file before or just try to override it.

Jerry I emailed Viewsat and they said that the Viewsat 8000 (HD) is due out in August. I also talked to a few Canadian distributors and they said that they are expecting to start selling the these the third week of August.

In most cases you just install the new bin over the old. If problems start to show up on a regular basis, then you may need to install the factory bin and then the latest bin. This is only necessary if problems develope. here is a link to the latest 3500 loader 35.01. You may need to join the forum to download it if you don't already have it.
