I've been researching this very card for about a week now, and three things in all the reviews and tests I found on-line, were performance, Cool and Quiet! This is about as good as it gets in an HD-4850

My 30 dollar rebates for my Asus 4850 came in. This was a launch card and I paid 160 for it also. Although it had that crappy stock cooler.

 

couple of nice finds there Russ. I like the MSI better cause it looks cooler... no pun intended. lol.

A number of people claim that it runs cooler than any other HD-4850-512! I just like the 4 heatpipes (6mm), vs the two heatpipes (5mm) of the GigaByte. Throw in the general consensus, that it's quiet, and I'm sold on the MSI!

8600GTS is what, 70-80% faster than 7600GT?
HD3870 was 100% faster than 8800GTS, and HD4850 is 80% faster than HD3870. So that's about 6 times by my calcs, ouch...

 

i bet the 7600GT runs crysis maxed out DX10 at 0 fps, so tbh the 4850 will be inifit times better

 

Actually if you max out Crysis even the HD3870 and 8800GTS 320MB get 0fps, as they don't have enough memory to render the game at all.

Ah, different story then.
I played Crysis at 2560x1600 on my X1900XT... I genuinely did, but shadows and shaders were both low and I got frame rates in the high teens, low 20s... lol

 

the 8800GTS you mention is not a G92 card. Those are the ones with the odd-ball memory size 320MB/640MB. The HD-4850-512M is a much better card than the 8800GTS, 8800G92/GTS or the HD-3870! It also blows away the 9800GTX that's supposed to compete with it. By God, I think I've sold myself! LOL!!

The HD4850 is very powerful for the price though, sees off any geforce 8 or 9 series single card.
