They're normally about 700USD or 480-490GBP (635-650USD) over here. That price makes it 590USD pre-tax though, hence it being in the deals section :p

What's interesting is that considering we pay 17.5% tax, the price on the HD5970 is only $570, cheaper than the US seem to get 5970s at...

Heh, most of the time the HD5970 is around £480-£490, which minus the tax works out at $630-$640. Given that HD5970s are typically $700 still, that still work out cheaper. Now that they've dropped to $650 in the US, I see £460-£470 here often ($600-$615).
Most of the time, the exchange rate works out about even for PC parts, and often in favour of the US. Not so in ATI's case it seems.
(As an example, the GTX480 was released here at £450, which is $590. What were they in the US, $500?)

I'm afraid I'm unsure what the 480 released at. The only card/s I've had my sites on are the 5850 and the 5970. xD Both unfortunately are too much for me at this time :( Though they are worth it from what I've seen ;)

Good stuff, thanks, i hadn't done any price comparisons, thinking i could only find drives cheaply exc VAT. I'll probably get a couple thru ebuyer then, provided i can get to the bottom of the annoying IDLING features of the drives first (as per my posts in the PC Building thread) of course :).

edit- just realised, i won't be buying any thru ebuyer as don't want to pay shipping (thru Misco i get next day delivery and no VAT as i piggyback on work purchases), free delivery is a week's wait if i remember thru ebuyer. I prefer stuff to just turn up at work next day. Thanks for the info anyways.

Yeah see my reply there. Personally I think complaints about the system are overblown. It's not an ideal system as the adjustment of the unload interval should be given to the user really, but given the alternatives I'd still currently use WD drives. I'm intending to get 6, possibly 7 or 8 WD20EARS drives from one of those shops in the next couple of weeks.

Yeah i'd just edited my previous reply.
Whilst i was originally going to mass-buy new drives to replace the existign 500GB drives i realised I only need to buy drives piecemeal as i've been doing a lot (a heck of a lot) of data shuffling since i bought the first two 2TB drives. I've got things such that i can just buy one drive for now as i'll be able to reuse 4 now-spare 500GB drives as a backup for just one new 2TB drive. I prefer to reuse drives instead of selling them, it means more drives to store but it's the way i roll.

Ebuyer's supersaver delivery states a week but is usually about 3 days.
If you post at Hexus forums, you get free shipping at Scan for all orders over £20.
The same goes for bit-tech forums, for free shipping at CCL.
Minimum posts is 20, so not especially difficult :)

I've only ever sold one hard disk, as someone actually came to me asking to buy one, and there weren't enough reasons to keep it (it was one of my WD5000AAKS drives), and the main reason I'm buying all these drives is for physical redundancy, which I don't yet have. I only really need one 2TB drive's worth of extra storage for now. I just have 12TB of drives to redundantise :p Seems mad to retire 1TB drives to backup status, but a lot of them are getting on a fair bit now, at least 3 of them are nearly 3 years old.
