bought a dell 2400 system with philips dvd 8601 - RW fitted. Takes well over an hour to copy a dvd. Have used the Sonic software supplied and Roxio 6. Max write speed acheived is 1.5x. How long should it take to copy a dvd?

    Hi there,

I just bought a Dell Dimension 8400 myself and it's just out of the box. Haven't even finished installing all my applicaitions yet.

All I know is that is came with a Philips DVD8631.
And since I got it, there's been 2 firware upgrade.

You have have the firmware 9Dsomething.

BD10 was released not long ago, and just a few days ago, they released CD21.

Go to Dell Support and flash your drive with the latest firmware. I'm sure it might fix a few problems !

Also, when burning video, seems everyone agree you should burn at 2x or 4x Max.

Depending on the brand/quality of the media, the drive might decide to burn at a lower speed.

I'll let you know in a few days, if I get the chance to play with my new toy :)

    My 2 cents worth...
