I have the pioneer as above and read that the drive can be adjusted with firmware to enable it to burn dual layer.Has anyone here done it and if so does it work well and how do i get the firmware?I assumed it would be on the Pioneer site but there seems no mention of it.Any help appreciated
    Regards

Think it may be another urban myth. Have not seen or heard of anyone being able to do this.

    *moved to appropriate forum*

The only SL to DL hack I'm familiar with involved the NEC 2500 to a 2510 but it only worked for some people and killed a few drives as well.

It was demonstrated 6 months or so ago by pioneer that they had firmware to do this but did not say they would release it.
