that is the error i get with nero, dvdsanta, convertxtodvd, etc. i used to be able to burn dvd's just fine on my old notebook. well i just got myself a brand new one, have the same software and the same codecs and such. the only thing that has changed is the operating system, the new notebook came with vista and i promptly rolled it back to xp pro. i'm now running xp pro on my compaq athlon 64 dual core. note i have been burning dvd's for years, i had had small problems before but managed to fix them by tweaking settings. this has cost me a good 30 blank disks so far, and it's driving me insane. more info: this notebook and it's drive has worked successfully a few times, with one or two bad ones mixed in. now tey all do the same thing. the burn process completes without error, usually at 2.4x since im using dvd+r, yet when i play the dvd on any machine it will play for perhaps an hour or so and then i get that maddening hour, and the dvd simply locks up and quits playing after i click away the error popup. i dont think it's the media im using, memorex dvd+r, as this has always been the dvd of my choosing before, and im into my 2nd spool with the same problems. the fancy japanese blanks i've read about on the forums are'nt available here.. i dont think its the burner either, since it will burn cd's and i mean its brand freaking new. ive tried different speeds, different software, restarting and shutting down every other app, hell i even disconnected it from the net and nothing. hopefully this is a simple problem with a simple solution. i've read through some of the forum posts but i'm honestly lost, any help i can get would be awesome! also i'll be happy to provide any other info that may be needed.
when a burned disc locks up the reason is usualy media problem memorex is not a good media they are made by CMC mag and they are know to have problems some will work and some will not some will work for short period of time and then they display playback problems so get some good media like Verbatim
yes, i can see that memorex is'nt the best media out there. however Verbatim's are'nt sold in my area, so it's either that or tdk or sony. i can understand that some won't work, but 30 in a row? i've easily made thousands of dvd's over the years, and i've used only memorex. so obviously that can be partially responsible.. but this here is just insanity.
With a notebook its always best to have it connected to the mains where possible check your power saving settings as well and make sure they are always set to on like its been said Memorex isn’t the best quality media but if you think its not the media worth checking the above when you burn the disk do you select verify after the burn
ok yeah, that is one of the things i had checked before. it was set that my monitor and hd would go after after so much time, i made sure to set it to always on. that actually made a few dvd's work correctly, before it went back to the way it is. as far as verifying the disk, no i don't select that, should i be? the only other things i can think of is.. when i changed my os, could that affect the firmware at all? long shot but i have to ask. also this, i don't have the drivers for my VGA video controller. i've gotten many different ones from hp but none have worked. thank you guys so far for trying to help me out with this.
update: tonight i finally got some dvd's to burn and play correctly. no error during the playback now. i'm currently using divxtodvd for my encoding and dvdsanta to burn the image. it's awkward i know, but it works. so until i get the problem fixed for real, i'll do it this way. also going to try and hunt down some Verbatims if i can, to see if theres a difference in how many i get errors with. so if anyone else has this problem, here's a temp solution.
