i have an irritating problem with skipping and stuttering when i play dvds from mounted iso files or directly from the vob files. ive used windvd, powerdvd, microsoft media player, and media player classic, all with the same results. if i burn the dvd to an actual dvdr and play it from the dvd drive, it works fine. im guessing its a hard drive thing, but i would have thought that having the 16mb cache would eliminate that.

are there any applications that will smooth the playback from my hard drive? or can anyone tell me something else that it might be?

Have you tried mounting an image of the disc with something like Daemon Tools? You could always convert the DVD to MPEG-1 or Divx.
