Update-- I ran aspichk.exe and it also confirmed that WINASPI.DLL isn't installed. But reading some of the threads in the ASPI links you provided, I gathered that Nero uses its own ASPI files, independent of the system ASPI, in which case the state of my system ASPI shouldn't matter. Is this correct? And if I can burn CDs, wouldn't that indicate that I don't have an ASPI problem? Thanks.

The system ASPI is important and is probably what is causing your failed burns. Nero is supposed to use it's own ASPI, but a corrupt or missing system aspi can cause failed burns. The Verbs you are using is some of the best media out there, so we can eliminate the media as being a problem now. My friend had a corrupt system aspi, and he could burn DVDs, but not CDs using Nero. Just the opposite of your situation, but giving the same kind of problem. After install of ASPI he was able to burn CDs again. Nothing else was changed, and it fixed his problem. I have a feeling your problem will be fixed when you fix your system ASPI. Try that first, but cleaning the laser is not hard to do. If you can see it with the drive door open, you can take a q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol and us it to clean the lens if you can get at it. There a also discs you can buy that clean the laser lens. Try the regular ASPI program first, and if that one doesn't work, use Force ASPI. You can check to see if they took by looking at Info tool. Get ASPI fixed, and then try a burn. I am at work, and have to sleep soon, but post if you still have problems. Some ppl have a hard time getting ASPI to take, but it was easy for me when i did it.

I ran the Adaptec aspi_471a2 installation for XP32, but Nero Info Tool still says my System ASPI is corrupt. I think it may be b/c it sees that WINASPI.DLL isn't installed. But according to Adaptec's aspi_471a2 readme.txt (quoted below), XP isn't supposed to have WINASPI.DLL or WOWPOST.EXE (although mine always had WOWPOST.EXE).

"I. Operating System ASPI Files Installed
    Microsoft Windows XP wnaspi32.dll, aspi32.sys

(you may not have all of these files; which files you have in your PC depends on which Windows platform is in your PC)

    For Win XP 32-bit:
ASPIXP.SYS will be copied to %windir%\system32\drivers\ASPI32.SYS
WNASPIXP.DLL will be copied to %windir%\system32\WNASPI32.DLL"

And quoted from Adaptec aspi_471a2 docs file, ASPI for Win32
    Technical Reference (aspi32.pdf):

"If you are using explicit dynamic linking, remember that the ASPI for Win32 DLL is named WNASPI32.DLL
and not WINASPI.DLL. Make sure to call LoadLibrary appropriately."

So since I installed the two ASPI files the readme claims I need for XP, should I ignore the Nero Info Tool corrupt results? Or should I run Force ASPI now?

    Thank you very much.

Can sombody help me please. I have dvd shrink 3.2 and burn with nero. I have been having problems with a few dvd's that I burn. I am told the dvd burn was successful but when I put it into my dvd player it tells me disk is dirty and can't be read. I clean the disks and they still don't work. I know they are not dirty as it has happened on several occasions with different disks. If anybody knows the problem please help. Thank you very much.

    dimar,
Run the force ASPI, but do the killaspi part first. It doesn't hurt to have all 4 files. If nero is still saying it is corrupt, then it needs to be fixed. The force aspi usually fixes it.
