Hi all, my dad's computer crapped out and now I have a reason to take the plunge and try to build a new computer. I've been browsing the forums here quite a bit and was hoping for some expert guidance, or at least mass guidance. I will be using this mostly for online games and some FPS. I want to also try overclocking because of all I hear about it. Here's what I have so far:

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6300 $187.00

    Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive $89.99

Look OK? I thought the RAM was really expensive and was hoping perhaps someone could recommend an alternative. Actually, now that I think about it, if I could get suggestions on alternate parts that would lower the overall cost to approximately $800...

from what i can see that will be a great build, although im not to sure about the psu.

if you try to reduce the cost too much you will also reduce the quality and that will hinder the performace and the ability to overclock (if you was thinking of going that route).

you could save a little bit by getting this

it is slightly slower than the 6300 but not by much.

and another little bit by getting this
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131142
which would overclock the other parts very well.

    edit
ram is dear but you get what you pay for, alot like graphics cards, which brings me on to my next point.

    dx10.

future games will look better on it , for this you will need a complient card and vista, ati and nvidia are about to start battle with these cards and maybe you would be better to wait a few weeks (maybe 2 months top?) to spend on a new graphics card instaed of getting, not saying its a bad card far from it, what is now about to become old tech.

it will save you getting another in the near future.
