InCD works well for some people and is very buggy for other people. I have seen many reports that if it is not working right that it will not even format the disc to use for packet writing.

Is it useless? Not if you want to do packet writing but there may be better software. It's just a choice of what you want to use your writer to do and what software and conflicts there are. Most packet writing software can cause conflicts.

This is a FAQ for DVDXcopy that lists some common software conflicts. Many of those will also apply to Nero, DVD Decrypter and other copy software.

thanks for the insight. I never expected DVD writing would be so perplexing. Today, something weird happened, I used DVD shrink to encode a movie and i chose to copy it onto a disc. The DVD shrink said "illegal disc error" and I don't have INCD. Then, just to try, I tried to copy through NERO BURNING ROM and it was SUCCESSFUL. How can that be?

anyway thanks a lot, you helped me a lot

They may be very reliable for Data backup but they are in the Poor category as far as DVD Backups are concerned

You need Ritek G04's or "Branded" Verbatims" -

    cheers -

    Pete

I have the same problem, for some reason (and I don't think it is nero because three other programs did the same). It is because it's a DVD+RW. I have not been able to write to a DVD+RW (As video or as files) but I can write to a DVD+R fine with no errors. I see you where using DVD+RWs in your error log under media type. Now can anyone explain that.

I had that problem with XCopy Platinum, but reversed. I was successful with RW's and unsuccessful with +/-R's. Was fixed by updating my aspi layer.

Here's something funny. After posting this message (and wondering for two days) I found the problem. I needed to update my Firmware for my dvd recorder. After I did that, it was fine. You may need a firmware upgrade if your disc you are burning to are a 4x or higher (Even if your burner is only 2.4x)

NO!!!! Illegal disc error again! I've uninstalled INCD and then for a few discs there were no errors now there are errors again! illegal disc. I don't know what's the problem. I disabled Norton and ran a spyware check. What do you guys think?

    Mindgod,

Have you ever had Roxio installed?

I never had roxio intalled. I will try to reinstall nero, but i don't think that will do anything. I don't know where the problem lies: I have the latest firmware, TDK DVD+RW which is the recommended media for ND-1300A. I have uninstalled INCD. I disabled Norton when i was burning. It doesnt make sense. Yesterday i was able to burn a DVD, today it always says illegal disc. It's hopeless.

I have to go along with ScubaPete on the media thing. You would be surprised how many people have come to AD with the same problem, only to find that the media was at fault. It is the only variable you are dealing with. But ... there a couple of more things that we can do, but I don't think it will matter much.

These are memory related. Check your page file settings. This is virtual memory on your hard drive. The min and max values should be the same. I use 4000 MB for video crunching.

Launch Task Manager/Performance, and see what your CPU and RAM memory are doing when you do get a good burn, and also when things don't work.

As a last resort, you could do a clean install of all your software. If it were me ... and it has been ... I would switch to Ritek G04. I have never had a problem since. If I'd only known the "truth" back when I started, I wouldn't have older Memorex burns that I can't even read now.

    These are my suggestions.

Open Shrink, click edit then preferences, under the "File I/O" tab ... check the box to Enable burning with Nero.

When you tried burning with DVD Decrypter was it an ISO file? DVD Decrypter will only burn ISO's.

The only other things I saw was ... You need to swap your drives, make sure your burner is the master drive.
And, maybe try ripping the disc with DVD Decrypter first, then run it through Shrink.

Something else to ponder may be Windows IMAPI burning service is interfering. It can cause problems similar to packet writing apps. IMAPI isn't needed if you have real burning software installed.

    To disable IMAPI:

Control Panel > Aministrative Tools > Services > scroll down to IMAPI CD Burning COM Service and double click it. Now choose "Disabled" for the startup type. Click OK.

The NEC guide on NEC.com listed TDK as a recomended media. Anyway i did a clean reinstall of all Nero software and still the same. I set the page file initial and maxium the same (i have 1052mb). still nothing... and still the same. I have not tried ritek and i have not tried verbatim...I will but i am broke i spent 60 bucks on a 25 pack of tdk dvd+rw. I am so pissed..lol Also how can i switch the master/slave thing? Guys, i appreciate all your help but nothing seems to work.

The windows burning service is disabled. I don't any other "thing" is causing a conflict with Nero. Is the Nero version 6.3.1.17 bad? and how can it be the media, if some discs actually worked? I set the paging file system, and nothing happened then I reset it. I will post back with the RAM activity.
