What did I tell ya? ;) At least the 2 recommendations you just got agree on Pioneer and Lite-On. The others mentioned are also good. All of us appear to agree on the Lite-On. But that doesn't mean the next ten people voting will. LOL

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Asus. Am I the only one who bought one of those from the Egg?

SATA? Not on the one in the wife's PC. I've had good luck with Asus boards, so I thought I'd give the optical drive a try. I picked it up from the Egg because I didn't have a drive in any of the PCs that could handle RAM. I had all the other bases covered, so I thought I'd cover that one. Still haven't run into a need for the RAM feature, but it's there if I ever do. LOL So far no problems.

Here's a SATA model from Newegg, $32.99 for the OEM.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135145 SATA is the current tech, so my future builds will be using SATA drives. I also like the smaller SATA cables, they're less clutter inside the case.

This sucks! Looks like DVDFAB will be getting even more business in the near future! $72.00 for a decrypter! LOL Better put some really good bait on that hook!

SlySoft switches over to the Euro

In order to guarantee future software development, SlySoft will change
its pricing from U.S. dollars 1:1 to the Euro effective January 1, 2008.
The resulting price increase is absolutely justified according to SlySoft
    CEO Giancarlo Bettini:

"The largest cost factor facing a software company is programming. All our
developers are already paid in Euro and have been for years. In order to
maintain our software at the latest level well into the future and at the
same time be able to provide our customers with free updates and free
support, a switch to the Euro was simply a logical consequence."

Out of fairness, SlySoft announces this step well in advance of its taking
effect in order to provide all interested parties the opportunity to
purchase SlySoft products at the old prices. Those buyers who act quickly
in this time can also save an additional 20% with the special Christmas
    Promotion which started today.

Using a currency calculator, that looks like a jump in price for AnyDVD from $49.00 to $71.98.
Sombody may want to check my numbers.

Actually looks pretty nice, but I already have IRC, MSN, googletalk and Skype and rarely use them anymore.

    LOCOENG,
Same here... I already have too many places to keep up with now.

    Thanks, Jeannie!
You can always come here to talk, we don't mind. Just make sure your talking about computer stuff or someone may blow a fuse. LOL

The mods are always telling me to stay on topic in the tech threads. That mean old Binkie nailed me earlier. She's so sweet though, it's hard to think of her as mean. LOL I guess the mods are lightening up over the holidays. ;) I've still got the Safety Valve and PMs.

Interesting site, but too girly for me. It's hard to believe they have women over 40 posting their age. Some are sensitive along those lines. Obviously you're not one of them. Did I see mention of a grandchild? NC? With everything else, I'm surprised I didn't see a stock car in there. LOL NC is some beautiful country from the mountains down to the ocean. The ocean is nice, but I'm partial to the mountains.

    QuikDraw,
Since we've all gone off the farm, where did you get the statement about Slysoft switching 1:1, dollar to euro? Besides your post I saw it at Digital Media. I was thinking I saw it at Slysoft, but can't remember for sure.
