Hey! Brother, what exactly are you trying to modify. I'm curious because my buddy is into that stuff.
doing a case mod connecting ide cables together ,to make a large Python look a like . the adapter will be the head thanks for asking
Hey! That sounds VERY COOL!!! My buddy seems to like it also! Have you checked out this link. http://www.overclockersclub.com/guides/sleeving_cable_guide.php When your done can you post a picture?
I checked it out and it seems the IDE thing is on its last legs, if you believe some people. Apparently there really is no Ultra133, and Ultra100 (UDMA5) barely reaches the 40" on 80pin cable. It and Ultra66 won't reach it at all with 40pin cables. (Crosstalk, signal integrity, ground, EMR, RFI) Anyway forget that, we're overclockers I thought this was a quick NooB question but you guys are knowledgeable and moddin' some cases or whatever, that's kewl. You could build your creature with two IDE ports (I'd hack 'em out of old dead mobos I've got Or you could buy them as parts I guess, can you ddp? Whichever, you would just have to solder the 40 lines and make your little device. The key, obviously, is making it function LoL My info is that DMA Mode 3 (Ultra ATA 33) should be good to go for what you're doing. It's actually fine for the typical old, tired harddisk... It's what our latest DVD burners run on. BTW SATA optical drives have been spotted, kewl eh ddp? Good luck guys, yes post pics please! Edit: Shielded cables; 2 nice round expensive shielded cables will of course help L8R lads _X_X_X_X_X_[small] ABIT AN7 nForce2 Ultra 400 XP2500+ Barton @ 3200+ 2 x 512MB PC3200[/small]
the_ogs, going to take connectors off duff hd, cdrom or whatever. i think you can buy 40 pin males for cables, i've seen 34 pin so i think there is 40 pin. remember it is not just 40 but 80 because of both ends. i've worked on alot smaller spacings than that on motherboards.
Excellent Yes, for our regular viewers let me say: Even though the cables we call 80pin have 80 'ribbons' there are still only 40pins. Each connector is simply doubled with a ground, to enhance signal integrity and reduce crosstalk. So to connect two males together, back-to-back, you'd make 40 connections = 80 solders = at least one burning Don't post any pictures of that eh, Cheers
i've only burnt myself twice, once leaving iron on all weekend not knowing was on & grabbing it in my hand, need less to say i didn't hold it to long but i heard it sizzle
