Iomega doesn't usually manufacturer their drives so a firmare update can now be found easier- the latest for your drive is A306 - here's a link: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1923 This can cause problems - turn this option off. Is the last log that said was successful?
To overcome this error you will need to have AnyDVD running to break the copyright. I see you stated you already had AnyDVD installed. @binkie7, sorry Karen, please continue, I only logged on for a short visit, Cheers

Could it be my dvd burner. What is the expected life span of a burner? I am grasping at straws now. I was in contact with the online help line with iomega and they say it has to be my software but if my software is up to date and it is working for everyone else could it be my burner?
@shortymum Since you've used 2 different programs to burn and still have the problems burning and playback problems - it's probably not the software. Good burner can last awhile - I have 1 that are is almost 2 years old that is like a timex. Many, many burns and still kicking. A firmware update may help - a link is above - or contact iomega again and ask them though they don't sound very helpful - passing the blame - I'm suprised that didn't trouble shot more. Most sites suggest upgraded firmware for their drives when problems arise. TY is very good media but you can also try say some Verbatim and see what happens.
I know It may not be relavent but try freeing up some memory as well i usually try to keep mine at a minimal of 175 free memory close some programs running in the background and check the firmware of your burner as I and others have stated before
Well here is a happy note to some degree I went and bought a new DVD burner and wow I can now burn movies. It was my burner not any of my programs. But I do have to THANK YOU ALL very much for your help it was greatly appreciated. You people are wonderful.
@shortymum You're very welcome!!! Yep that's one way to solve the problem! Hope this one works much better for you! On the iomega I would still update the firmware - you never know it may come in use again. Happy Burning!
This was an interesting thread to follow - particularly where everyone stuck with her. I had similar problems (external burner - replaced with new internal) when I first started, although not quite to this extent, and several people stuck with me and offered a ton of good advice. I have to echo shortymum's comments that the people on this site are very helpful. Someday I hope to be able to help at this level.
@tsquare43 I'm sure you have reached that level! It's always good to have other members pipe in - everyone looks at things differently - and may see something we may have missed. Makes problem solving better imo. No matter what your status is a valid point is a valid point. After all we here to help others out when we can as a collective. Always follow thru to the end (+ I hate loose ends!) if you can.
I have been following this thread also. I had an old version of Nero, an OEM that came with my drive v6.3. I uninstalled it then did a clean ,and downloaded the new version that Gwendolen and Binkie had for 6.6 and the Recode. 6.6 version is there but it doesn't have Recode. Did I do something wrong? also my InCD is gone is that not part of 6.6? I'm confussed can I have some help. Rich
I was given the link for nero recode on the second page of this thread and it worked great. Like I said everyone here is great. Thank You all. I have been ablle to burn again like a breeze. I bought a LITEON EZ-DUB external burner. Here they wanted more to have a internal burner installed then it cost for a external so I stayed with the external. Thanx again.
That's where I got, from Binkie's thread, It says it downloads and installed ok but nothing shows up in Nero. Maybe I don't know what I'm doing. Rich
@RichDee Was recode a part of your original oem version? The version # for the link of recode is 3.1.0.21. What different app do you have listed in Nero's smart start? Oh and InCD is a separate install but it can cause conflicts on some systems. So unless you need packet writing you don't really need it. @shortymum I think you'll be happy with the Liteon - it's the one I call my Timex.
@binkie7 No. Recode was not part of my original version, which means I can not get it,I'm I right? And I do use packet writing once in a great while but not very often. Rich
@RichDee I think that's the case. It been a couple of years since I had an oem version w/o Recode and I remember trying to do the same thing - ended up just upgrading from 5 to the full version of 6 cause of Recode. You can try downloading package 3 from here to get InCD back: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php
Shortymum; Have you ever considered installing a burner yourself? I know a lot of people are a little intimidated by that, I certainly was the first time, but it's only a matter of unplugging the old one and plugging in the new. Most burners today come with detailed installation instructions. If you still feel a little trepidation, ask a friend or family member to help out. You can also come here or PM me and I'll walk you through it. I've helped others insall them (approx. 40) and when we're finished, they just cannot beleive how little time and effort it really is, and why they suffered so much angst at the mere thought. I can change one out in about 5 minutes. After you've done it a few times you will too. I'll tell you what. Check your Sunday circulars for Staples. Every couple of months they sell the I/O Magic 16x DL burner for under $30 (after rebate). I've owned a Pioneer 2x, 2 Lite-On 4x, 3 Lite-On 8x, 2 Sony 16x DL, and now I have 3 of the I/O Magics (one still in the box for a spare) which I use exclusively. The Pioneer was used in the early days of backup. Reliable, but sloooow. When I had the Lite-Ons with the faster speeds, the media was very difficult to match up which resulted in the DVD's not being compatible with different players. The Sonys were never any good. Complete crap! One of them, the 710A, has had SIX firmware updates!! And on the Sony website, they still don't recommend ANY 16x media for use in it!!! But with these Magics, which have never needed a firmware update, I can even use the cheapest 8x +R's and have never had one skip or freeze. For friends and family I just burn them at 4x to be safe. Mainly I use Verbatim 16x +R's, record at 12x, and have never had a coaster in over a 1,000 burns. I record a lot of movies from TCM, FMC, and cartoons for the grandkids from Boomerang etc., so I use a HUGE amount of blanks. I record with +RW's, throw them in the computer, edit out commercials and stuff with DVD Shrink, and burn 'em up. The cartoons I merge together with Shrink and have 100's of DVD's of Scooby-Doo, Spongebob and others with about 3 hours on each one. Friends and family members loooove me! The point being, THESE MAGICS ARE THE GREASTEST!!!!!! I highly recommend them. And at $30, why not? Later
