Ok guys so I'm stumped. My laptop is about 2 years old, standard Toshiba, and until about I'd say 4 months ago it worked fine. Then the charging started going wacky, so, in a stroke of brilliance, I replaced the power jack inside the laptop. Turns out all that I needed was a new charger but that's besides the point.

Now, my laptop will give me the "plugged in not charging message" if I try to start charging my laptop while it's running. However, it will start charging if I plug it in while it's in sleep mode, and will remain charging if I turn it on after plugging it in.

    Any ideas? Thanks a bunch

I would try booting for a barttools DVD...if it acts the same from there, you can assume it is a hardware issue; otherwise it could just be a windows glitch. Also, are you sure that it is not charging? I mean, have you tried going to 50% battery, plugging it in for an hour or so in the "plugged in but not charging" mode, and then unplugging it to see the battery level?
