I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered before, but I couldn't find the thread.

I've been ripping my entire CD collection to MP3 but the quality isn't quite right. The best way to describe it is wind on a microphone in the background. I'm sure it has something to do with base getting clipped.

I'm using EAC V0.95 prebeta 5 to rip WAVs from the CDs and RazorLAME (LAME 3.96.1) to covert from WAV to MP3. The WAVs sound fine, but the MP3s have the distortion, even with "--preset insane".

File size isn't a big concern, I'd rather have high quality MP3 (just in case its a choice of dropping some base or making the files bigger to accomidate it).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, try to use a VBR scheme. Alt preset insane uses a CBR scheme at 320 kbps.
