Appreciate the feedback MUCH MUCH. I'm afraid optiarc let me down though. I gave them one shot months ago and they blew it. My DRU class sony's are, and have been through out AWESOME. My lite-on is the only thing better. Yah, I forgot to mention also, that the 820 has for half its burning life made a curious clicking/grinding sound. BUT... its never had a coaster so I shrugged it off. BUT now, it will never see another disc. I might give it to a buddy for a reader. Poor guy has a 99 compaq 800mhz (PROCESSOR) computer. Might I recommend, to anyone reading this, The sony dru's are sold at WALMART. Walmart's return policy is AWESOME. DONT buy it online. THANK YOU for the info on the identifer, I heard about it before but spaced it, then forgot about it entirely.
All Optiarcs are not created equal...the 72XX series GM recommended are highly sought drives. Any series drives before that can be questionable.
LOCOENG... YOU are the man. I consider myself to be open minded. I will give them another shot. Besides, it is only 30$ avg. RIGHT? Hmmm... Newegg has them. I forgot that NEC paired up with sony on them. Ive had an NEC before too. Cra*&^&% out on me after 100burns. Though I was a heavy, heavy smoker around it. My computer will never see another cigarette. Really weird rip errors too. I didnt know that a dvd-rom/writers could screw up video audio sync till that burner. Must've given it cancer. LOL :0
LOCO You're absolutely right about the Optiarcs. I have two, one the LiteOn version Optiarc 7191S Lightscribe. It was adequate, but the Optiarc AD 7200S-NEC is great and I also have and recommend the LO 20A1S. I burn with the former-NEC and read with the litey. newegg.com for cheap burners editted the burner #s for optiarc 7191S and 7200S
as the creakster said dont get caught up in the hoopla of these scans.they are a mear tool to have fun with and brag about the scores ya get. ive seem to have gotten a name for the numbers part of these scans(which im proud of) most of today's drives are made on the same level.yes some are better than others but in all pretty equal. if your gonna look at the scans to determine quality. in my eyes after looking at a few thousand of them..lol your main concern is the PIF's that is what will tell you if you have a readable disc/reripable disc. but in all if you can put the disc in a pplayer and it play and look good to your standards, its a 100% good burn. and if you can rerip it and get another good playable disc your golden... as for a new drive. the sony/nec/optaric AD7200S is a awesome drive.i have one myself. along with alot of others here. i have yet to see a complaint about one. you cant go wrong with it. i also have to toss in the liteon LH-20A1S. i know it is very hard to find them now but they are a good drive as well. outside the 7200s i havent bought any other drive. i have all 3 of my liteons running well over 3 years now (well for my 16x litey)and no problems out of them.. other then operator error.. ok you all done it made me fell the need for a scan. got tropic thunder gonna burn it and scan...ill burn with both the 7200 and 20A1S and scan with both and post all. edit: i would do dual burns but being down a stick of mem i wont...dang come on UPS guy...lol
LOCOENG, I have a Sony/NEC/Optiarc AD7170-A, which is NEC based and it is an extremely good drive. I've had it for over 2 years and have burned about 700 DVDs with it without any problems! Russ
well as stated. heres 2 burns the first on the litey then the 7200s. not to imressed with the 7220s scan. gonna scan the 7200s burn on the litey and see what i get. heres teh 7220s burn scanned on the litey.looks alot better until the end.gets the big spike. its only 1 spike so im not truely worried about it.im gonna rerip that disc and burn a copy off of it and see what i get.
I have seen that before, and it's usually caused by an inadequate CPU speed, or not enough memory. The video and the sound seems to jump around, stopping and starting with the video all over the place. I just ran into that the other day with an old Celeron 750MHz CPU. The AMD K6 seemed to work much better with much slower CPUs. The amount of memory can also cause that problem as well as the memory speed. Yet I had an old 450MHz Dell Optiplex P-II that I installed an Emprex DVD Burner in, and it worked fine! Russ
The NEC with the mentioned CANCER problem, was in a 1.4ghz athlon system. 512MB kingston ram. I ripped/burned well over 100dvds with it. after about 60 - 75 rips/burns it started not liking Transparent dvds/cds. I was VERY irritated when I would see those discs. Its rather ignorant when you think about it. The tecnology utilizes an eye, a beam of light, and they make discs that you can SEE THROUGH!!! Stupid, stupid, stupid. Though I havnt ever had a problem with my Litey, or my DRU drives. That computer is still going strong too. I swear its a freak of technology. I fire it up from time to time. I would think sync issues with discs would be COMPLETELY freakish. After all... It is simply a file/s copy, RIGHT?
@rob nice score that 57! LOL. I tripled burned with Nero Burning Rom on two internal BQs and one external usb LG with out issues on old pc with 528MB memory and P4 2.26processor. Smokin', literally! Creaky taught me how to multiple burn years ago. A lesson well learned. One reason I refuse to be w/o Nero's suites. I'm on 8 now up from 6.6.0.18. Getting same good results on SATA burners now.
"Creaky taught me how to multiple burn years ago" You mean... Simultaneous burning? Ive tried that. Buffer under runs were not too high. Wasnt worried about it since most/all new burners support buffer underrun protection. Whats your technique??? I used two instances of nero burning rom as well as Decrypter. Separate harddrives too. So im confused why there would be underrunning when they're basically file transfers, and processors really dont come in there. Atleast my processor never spikes above 1-2%
It's a (genuine) feature of Nero's suite that's worth it's weight in gold. I don't bother trying separate instances of a burn program when Nero can do it. I happily run multiple ripping programs alongside each other, but when it comes to a burning program that has to trawl data off a hard drive (even if it does have buffer-underrun protection) i'd personally rather a burning program can cater for it over running multiple processes..
Nero, Huh? Heck yah. Thanks for the post. MUCH obliged. I'll consider that a birthday present from you. You have a VERY good day. TGIF
LOL can't tell if you're joking or not ..for what it's worth i'm not knocking your way of burning, i was just stating my own preference.. the good thing about pc's is there's always a few ways of doing things.
Completely serious. I prefer atleast a little criticism. KNOCK AWAY. lol. Nah, I havnt tried several instances burning since I saw the buffer underruns. It confused me since they were separate harddrives but... I guess when burning, the burner simply needs undivided attention. I wont ask EXACTLY how nero does it. I'll do some homework. I'll remember better that way. THANKS
Nothing sweeter than 3 burners spun up burning the same ISO in Nero Burning Rom at the same time. NOT burning on the fly which is easy. Creaky What is the record for burning the same ISO in NeroBRom at the same time? Burnaway omegaman7 To multi burn an ISO file from HDD with 2 burners simultaneously: 1. Open Nero Ultra Suite 6.6.0.18 0r 8XXX 2. Open Nero Burning Rom (NBR) 3. X out the window that opens in NBR 4. Click on top left on FOLDER 5. Find where your ISO is located and highlight it and click open 6. Burn Compilation window opens:check multiple recorders. Then click burn 7. In the Choose recorder(s) window that opens, highlight the 2 burners you want to use (mine shows all three and will do them all). Click OK 8. Put media in drives as they will open automatically. They stay closed if they are already loaded. 9. Click on the burn Icon and both drives spin up. Both stopped about same time with nice new DVDs booktyped to DVD-ROMs. I used 8X as the burn speed. NBR has no trouble burning 3 16X DVDs
I'm a video_ts folder man as opposed to ISO's but it's all apples and oranges eh I burn 2 simultaneous as much or even more often than single imgburn burns, sometimes 3 at once but not too often..
