Omegaman are you saying that 1 spike there is givine you 104pif's and then the rest of the scan only produced 96 pifs? from what i have seen and done with these scans that block of PIF's at the 4.0 mark would have given you the 200 total you have. you say you get that same spike on every disc. you have to remember that around that .5 mark is normally where the the actual movie starts. all the previews and menu end and the movie starts. heres what ya need to try once.. use DVD-Rebuilder and do movie only with it and then burn and scan and see what you get. that scan right there is as next to perfect your gonna get.even your jitter is well below the so called standard for jitter testing. -------------------------------------------- wow thats hard to beleive a TY did that lovely...lol im suprised the 20x burn i did on the last page here looked like it did. tbh i thought it would look like what you posted..lol has me wondering if they ever did start to make 20x disc what they would look like??????
You'll like that drive O-man. OK.... I'm still a bit lost on your concern for that "104PIF" thingy... What is it and what do you mean? I'm being thick here I'm sure but if your reader is like mine that "mark" should indicate about a total of 3 or 4 PIF's at that point in the graph. It looks to be at about the 400MB as well. hmmmmmmmm.... What is consistent in your process when you backup your DVD? What I mean is... what do you do the same every time you create a burn? Ripping progie, HDD transfer, burning progie, surfing, speed of burn, speed of rip, scanning progie, and so on. There has to be something that you can change to change that spike. Of course assuming there is something wrong. lol. You got me curious for nothing else as to have some fun. lol. ....gm
heres a Cmag for ya all..take away the spike to 94 at the begining its not to bad.... for what it is..lol
creaky I've burned a few too and if your burner likes the M01's then you're fine. My buddy burned a few back in the summer time and they were terrible, skipping, freezing, and all that business. Of course he had some crappy Philips external POS... lol. Don't know model #.. sorry. Where is O-man?? I needs some sort of reply... hehehe. ....gm
other than the scans looking like they look i cant complain about them as of yet. i havent had any skip o r any thing on me, yet, just have to see how they play this time next year????
Ok. That scan showed only 40 pifs, in the indicated area. 104 pifs is the average. 9/10. Now... that COULD easily change with a new burner. Dont know. The large block in the scan was pushing 100. Now... my process is as follows. Depending on encryption, i'll either use dvdshrink(anydvd running), or anydvd to rip to HDD folder. Dvdshrink seems to rip faster most the time, depending on the drive. Sometimes however I'll fire up Dvdfab. Sometimes when theirs lots of previews, I wanna circumvent them. Then I run the files through rebuilder w/cce, AND have it create the iso. That way I can burn burn burn. LOL. Please note though, Some of my burns are 8 months old. And my process has changed a little since then. But for the most part its the same. Thanks for the opinion on backing up JUST the movie. I will try it VERY soon.
Ok. As suggested/requested, here is a backup of JUST the main title. No compression, dvd shrink to iso, imgburn. As you can see, the pif spike is there. Apparently 40 failures within. Much like the last scan. The optiarc seems to only introduce 40 where my other burners do 104 average. Im really beginning to wonder if my media is somehow the cause. It wouldnt surprise me. Even though premium and valueline yield same results. They are produced on the same line, ive heard. Both medias were purchased from meritline. What I need now is to test some of SMS's. If SMS's test better...well... I think you know the answer to that. If it is a flaw in the media, that would suggest that the optiarc yields better burns than the lite-on. Most interesting
ok. Probably the media producing the 40-104 pif spike. On this Datawrite disc, the spike in that area was only 5. Yes, this is a good burn. The optiarc did a pretty good job with this disc. But the lite-on yielded even better results. However that could be due to firmware or smartburn technology, which the litey possesses perhaps the optiarc has a better firmware reguarding TY's than the litey. I may never know. There are so many variables in the PERFECT burn its not even funny. Anyway... looks like problem solved for now. See... I was looking over a Silver printable TY scan I did a few weeks ago, and noticed no spike in the mentioned area. I didnt wanna use one of those for testing though because my stockpile of Silver printables are SCARCE! LOL
Could be a cause, but not very viable. lol. O-man try this link for some "patched and updated" f/w. I would give the 1.Z3 patch a go first. It should combine and use the most forgiving and strategically best of the best so to say. ....gm
Dee found some errors in the 1.Z3 patch so grab the 1.Z2 instead unless you are over-speeding, then grab the 1.06bt. Dee says that she will post a fixed version of the 1.Z3 asap and will call it 1.Z4 to stop any confusion.
hobbit thanks for informing us about that "error". I use the 1.06bt f/w but was told the 1.Z2 f/w is pretty good. I didn't realize the 1.Z3 f/w had issues. Thank goodness for other smarter members. ....gm
Here's the linky where Dee says she found an error. Doesn't say what the error affects in particular. I misspoke earlier, Dee says if you are going to burn at 16x or above, revert back to the 1.Z2. Maybe the error in the firmware is just for burning faster than 16x? I went back to 1.Z2 myself, though I didn't encounter any issues with 1.Z3 for the short time I used it. on a different note, I might have to pick up a 7200A and see if I can shoehorn it into my external litey enclosure. My external doesn't like some of my DLs that I use.
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH. I figured there would be modified f/w somewhere. Would that void my warranty. I guess I shouldnt care too much though. 30$ really isnt that much.
ahhh... but could I roll back to the original f/w or simply hold on to one of their future upgrades? Oh... and should I worry about my opti's buffer? It hangs around 95% Fluctuates alot more than my other drives.
