i think he has the LH-20A1H-186 - Retail. i dont remember him saying anything about lightscribe on his drives.. if memeory serves me right he has 2 of them
@VG2k2 Internal - Model LH-20A1H-185 - OEM External Model LH-20A1HX05C I didn't need the software with the internal so I got the OEM package and saved a couple of bucks. @cincyrob My Lite-On and BenQ burners are Lightscribe enabled. I've gone away from the Lightscribe because the labels fade so quickly.
If you have SATA connections available you should look at the LH-20A1S, I like it and the only media that poses a problem so far is RITEK R05 DVD+R 16X media. It could be the last few in the spindle, for some reason it's giving me fits on PIF's and that doesn't make a tired little man happy. lol @cincyrob, Good call on the LG (Hitachi) DVD drive. I like the LH-18A1P and LH-20A1S for scanning. For some reason the scans are more consistent in those drives compared to the SHW-160P6S. I have 2 of the these and they seem to get "weird" readings every once in a while. Good to see all these nice scans. Makes me want to do some burning. ....gm
cincyrob Thanks for the info.. i like to know where you found it . especially the part about compatibility with programs or nero. i dont see my other post this is my second one so if it show up 2x sorry
@Hobbit112 Before you leaned away from the LightScribe Media what brand did you find most compatible with your drive? i just ordered 2 of those LH-20A1H-185's Thanks!
You are limited to the manufacturers who make Lightscribe discs. I know of Verbatim, Memorex and HP. I think there are others. I never used any Verbatim lightscribe discs, only the Memorex and HP. I never found any DL Lightscribe discs either. Lightscribe-wise, the drive burned anything I threw at it. I had 2 messed up labels, 1 ended up with a nice swirl pattern and the other was all blotches. Don't know what happened with them. I didn't really see a difference in the labels between the brands I used. Data-wise, go with what works best in your drive. If you are interested, I have about 70 blank Lightscribe DVD discs (I think HP), lying around. Would be willing to sell to get rid of them if you are interested. If you are, PM me.
From the looks of the spec sheet, nothing. LOL. NOW if you want LS abilities this will get 'er done. Same drive essentially as the 20A1S but with LightScribe technology. I did get Nero 7 Essentials with the OEM drive which I thought was pretty cool. hth........... ...gm
Hi ;-) A couple of scans done with the Samsung SH-S203B, burns done @ max speed (20x). This one Verbatim branded 16x rated. http://img179.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sshot425co2.png Another TY Plextor branded 16x rated. http://img179.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sshot417zi0.png
Hi zebadee! Looks like your Sammy is running well. I just ordered the Samsung SH-203B and the LG GSA-H62NK from Newegg. I couldn't stand it. LOL. I don't think that I will need another DVDRW drive for some time. Are you the same zebadee at CDF?? Same greensman here. Just curious. btw @ all me friends. I may have a Lite-on SHW-160P6S for sale soon. If interested please PM me for details. ....gm
Hi ;-) greensman yes the very same. I am a forum whore. So any forum where you see the nick zebadee is AFAIK me! My fav DVDRWs are : - Samsung SH-S203B LG GSA H62N Pioneer DVR 212D
So the link idea is not going as well as planned. Does it actually save bandwidth? I was under the impression that it would save time for at least the dial up folks. I see both methods used at the other forum but I've noticed more and more posts with the scans in them. A year or so ago it was full of links too. ...gm Had to add this even tho it isn't fair!!!! LOL. link to Samsung SH-203B
Hi ;-) greensman, In truth I rarely bother with scans at all. Now that more folk have the 203. I won't bother much with that. I just started posting a few as I appeared to be the 1st one with this drive. Scanning is fun & I don't want to take that away from anyone. Just don't put too much emphasis on scans done by domestic DVDRWs to make a judgement call as to whether a burn is a 'keeper'. It ain't necessarily so. ;-)
Yes you were. I'm ready to "test" mine out but I'll have to wait until at least Thursday. :S I got the LG too so I'm doubly impatient. LOL OH!! We've beat that horse to death around here. LOL. docTY was the first one that I remember warning us of the "importance" of Nero scans. LOL. They are fun but for the most part can't tell you if the burn/disc is actually good or not. PLAYBACK is the real test as you well know. I won't go into detail but I had a problem with PLAYBACK about a year ago and went thru many discs and different components until BroBear, docTY, Mort81, and Sophocles figured out that I had a BAD mobo. It drove me nuts because I would get 90-98 scans with a BENQ DW-1655 all day long and then I would pop the disc into play and there would be the "pixels". IT was frustrating to say the least. So a little story that says Nero scans can't tell you the whole story.
I didn't do a proper test after we figured it was the mobo but it was either the ide connectors or a wonky north/south bridge problem. We were all leaning toward a bridge problem because all the ide connectors (plugs) normally won't go BAD at the same time. Simple answer, I hope it's explanatory enough. I'm not very "hip" when it comes to computer lingo. .....gm
LMAO...ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!! He said WONKY thats funny right there i dont care who ya are!!!!!!!! GET-ER-DONE!!!!!!!
