    @ o-man7

    I think the flashing tool does have the capability to "back up" your corrent firmware, but I don't know if there are traces left behind after a flash.

    My buffer also fluctuates, more so than my other drives. There has been discussion about it and I remember that Cincyrob was involved. Maybe he can shed some more light on that subject.

    Appreciate your quick feedback, THANKS. I wouldnt think that future firmware releases would void the warranty. But I know what you mean by leaving traces, ;) With sony, I wouldnt doubt it for a minute.

    @Omegaman7,
    Remember you can flash back to an older version of your firmware, unless the drive dies completely that is. I have cross-flashed a Sony DRU-800A to a Lite-on 1693S custom firmware which works better than either the Sony or the Lite-On firmwares out there. Experiment to see which one gives better results for you.

    Heres a scan of a TDK CMC dvd+r. I bought these (100PK) from costco for 20 bucks about a yr ago. The first printables I thought I would give a shot. I dont shy from verbs and ty's now :D I must admit though. For cmc and an obvious dru820 burn, its not a bad scan to me! See... my 820 (no longer employed) produced discs that scan much like this. An escalation of both pie and pif. Was a very faithful burner though. It saw ALOT ALOT of discs. probably in the neighborhood of 400 burns + rips. And the real kicker is it NEVER had a coaster! It was quite the freak of techonology for a while. Meaning it would read pretty nasty looking discs. Such a shame nothing lasts forever, SIGH

    If people dont like me changing the colors let me know. I was simply bored. Only took 3 min too. :D

    Guess my DRU840 could still be in the game. A scan like this wouldnt surprise me if it were a TY premium. But this was a valueline. Only one itty bitty mark on the shield. Yes, im obsessed. I take a 9LED flashlight (BRIGHT) to discs with blocks in there scans to determine what caused them. 3/5 times, its due to a flake of dust or scuff, etc. This is one of the shiniest, most spotless discs ive ever seen! Average PIE VERY low. :D

    yes yes yes..and yes
    i had the buffer problem big time. it would drop from 100% down to 4%
    some say that is normal and not to worry about it. so i took it for what it was... then i found out from some others that if i burn from my hard drive. to have the .iso/video_ts files on a different hard drive than the OS and other programs running. and that made a big difference. so i now have my new WD gp 500gb hdd as a secondary drive with just video and pics on it no programs or anything like that.

    omegaman7
    that last TY you burnt there is perfect... only 3 incidents of a recordable PIF.cant ask for mush more than that.
    i myself for the 7200S i like the 1.06bt F/W i tried the 1.Z2 didnt like it as much as the 1.06bt.. thats just me though.

    BlivetNC
    that is a sweet lookin scan on the older drive. mine is still kickin out some good burns as well.. but i know the newer DL disc. it cant read.. it needs a F/W update badly for the newer media.

    [IMG] Even though the box is ticked, Jitter still isn't showing up on any scan. Seems like it's always greyed out for whatever reason. Care to help out?

    Edit: tdk -r 16x pile o crap ones..lol.

    Pioneers arnt the best readers. From what I hear, BenQ drives, and lite-ons are the drives of both preference, and capability for reading, Pi E and Pi F + Jitter. onya, what kind of disc is that. Oh never mind. I'll google it.

    @onya

    some drives just don't read the jitter. I think the Optiarc NEC 7200 S I have doesn't also or it could be an usb LG I have-one I have doesn't LOL. I know the litey does LH 20A1S

    @garmoon I thought that Pioneer brand was pretty darn good apart from not booktyping...perhaps they burn just a bit better than they read then lol. This ones getting a bit old, prolly near the four year+ mark I think, she's done lotsa work. :)
    Even IF this pioneer was top notch, there's no way that tdk would've turned out any better. I've got another scan (won't bother posting) from around the same time-ish but on a Verb printable, it's messy as hell too. My current batch of verbs seem ok though, an occasional "misfire" doesn't hurt too much. :p

    Cheers.

    as the good garmooner said. the 7200S or any of the 7200 series dont do jitter. but the liteons do as well as the benQ's. the benQ's will do the jitter as they scan everything else,instead of waiting unitl the end of the scan like the liteons do....

    TTH02= made in india media
    media tek,sony,pioneer,tdk
    made for all these brands plus others.

    from what i remember that pioneer 108-109 drives were great burners but lacked in the scanning field

    RedRob answered your question about jitter onya. ;) Pioneers do NOT have the ability to scan jitter. I would see about getting a cheapy Lite-On if you can just for scanning. :) Heck you never know you could get a good burner/reader out if it TOO!! :)

    Heck RedRob even got the TTH02 thing too. :) I'll just sit back and watch him do his magic... Little Red magician that he is. :D

    add: onya where do you buy your ODD's? If you're in the market we would love to help you spend your money. That's assuming you are wanting/willing to buy another ODD. :)

    @gm. You're too kind..lol. This old machine is a 478 socket and it took an age to find a replacement mobo for it. Just not enough scrap bins lying around I guess.. :) The brand Plextor seems to be or had been highly regarded, but this will all have to wait for a complete new system. As I said, this old banana box is due for retirement, and an easy life as a word processor for the ex wife heheheh.

    A little off topic I know but, just the other month I saw an X-clio a380 shiny black case in a local window. Feck me those things are massive. My 14 yr old son took a liking to it..but nah, not fer me.
    *sorry mods..back on track* :p

    onya.... you can post OT in here.. lol. (MOD's don't read that....hehehe)

    RedRob encourages it. ;)

    I have a Gigabyte Aurora 570 and that thing is massive as well. My wife saw it the day I got it and was hoping that I didn't plan on filling it up with computer parts... I told her to late... hehehe.. the plan was already in action.... :D

    Still got to add about 3 HDD's to it tho (it only has 1 atm)..... the 4 ODD's in there are a bit lonely. :p

    Watch out for little green men who come into you nightmares and tell you to buy more ODDs. You get addicted and poorer for it. Altho newegg has ODD for the price of a 100 cake box DVD blanks.

    Hi Onya, good to see you! I'm a two and two man! Two ODDs and two HDDs. I don't want or need more and that philosophy is going to banish my Tower for good and allow me to build the AMD I'm looking into that will do everything I do with my present rig better and faster in this case without overclocking!
    [IMG]

    I'm looking forward to it!

    Best Regards,

    Yes the case is nice, but I didn't realize that it only has one external 5.25" bay, so I'm leaning more towards this case. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163066 Install a pair of these Silverstone fans in the rear http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835220023 and it should run very cool and very quiet at about minimum RPMs.
