    LMAO @ Rob,
(Little does he realize, the manager hired a hitman dressed in a NY Yankme uniform to break both of your knee caps for that.)

No need to cheat and lie guys.

I just went to the store with 6 unopened 50packs of -R's and my Invoice that showed what I paid for them.

And told them that I had higher expectations of this media because they were Always great before, but I got pretty poor results from several burns.

And that I wanted to exchange them for same brand just +R.

No Problem at all, Was told to go grab 6 packs of +Rs and she did even exchange. Provided me with recipt. Even though +R's were 35$ a pack.

The moral of this story is .... Just say the truth and you will have no problems at all.

    :)

Yeah, I second the beware of cheap media,
took out my old Sony Burner,
took it out for a night of loud music and cheap beer,
turned up pregnant a week later, then the cheap media skipped town,
    haven't heard from it since.

Yep, I'm fully aware of that guys, but thanks anywho. I'm not talking about the crappy crappy stuff, just some cheaper sonys or something. Do you really think I'd put a CMC Mag anywhere near my burner? C'mon guys, you know me better than that! ;-)

    :)

Edit: @born2ride: I think that media was just used to do a test mulitple burn with so Cincy didn't waste any good disks. :)

using that media for testing to see if multi burns work?

It is good media to use for testing, cos if it goes wrong, then no one cares, cos it's only CMC MAG.

And no it doesn't always come out with low scores. I have seen 97s on a CMC MAG, but that's not important. When you scan it 6 months later, it'll be no where near a 97.

    Yes it is.

And as for your burner; well, it's gettin on a bit, so the last firmware update is essential. Also, the enclosure is only 1.0 speed, which can effect burning - and the scores.

Maybe time for an upgrade to a new NEC or a LiteOn; new drives are getting very cheap these days. Also, maybe time for a USB enclosure upgrade too.

However, with the first bit in mind, you should get ok burns with uptodate (the last) firmware. Maybe use slower speed media, 8x or 4x if you can get it.

    @born2ride
See if the NEC supports 2.0 usb also - older drive so not really sure if it's supports both. Then you'd just need a 2.0 cable - they're every where.
If you don't have a 2.0 usb port in the pc you'll need to add/replace the usb pci card too to get 2.0.

    Happy New Year All!

when i flashed the nec to the 1300 it was looking for the 2.0 port pc does not have one,i gather just been relucted to spend more $ on this pc.
the reason i asked was all my scan start out good then go down.
was think it could be the slow port.

    i normally burn at 4x or 8x
    thanks

When you have the external plugged in to the pc - do you get that windows pop up saying something like 'this drive can perform faster using a 2.0 port'?

The cards aren't that much - you can pick one up from newegg.com.
    Anywhere from like $10 - $35.
