Here's the same disk, but scanned on my Lite-On LH-20A1H.

Lower PIEs & PIFs but lower quality score. Hmmm, interesting.

I think 95 is the max score LiteOn's give when burning to the edge :)
    I have yet to get one higher w/ low pie's & pif's.

Yeh getting a Lite-On to score better than 95 is difficult especially burning all the way to the edge of the disc. :) The BENQ and Lite-On have different ways they score and how they "report" PIE's and PIF's. I can't remember the link but will look for it so you have something to look at for comparison. :p

Another thing to remember is the BENQ's will have the tendency to "score" itself better than the Lite-On. That is whatever the BENQ burns it will favor that disc in a scan. The Lite-On is more "neutral" for scoring and reporting PIE's and PIF's on a disc burned from another drive.

    ....gm

btw I'm about to encode a couple of movies so I should add a few scans sometime soon. :)

edit: to add a couple of scans. :)
Same "image" on these 2 discs and both used Nero Express with video files.

edit2: I had to do this one just for fun. :) Again a Sony 08D1 but I 'transformed' the files to ISO format using IMGBURN then wrote the ISO image to disc using IMGBURN. :)

man bout time i was going crazy in here.. no scans for me to oggle over..lol...

now for that 98 statement on a liteon..lol ive been getting quite a few of them burnt to the edge...

heres one,, will look for a few more, but you all have seen these before..lol

i have had alot of 95's but the PIF's have been so low its unreal.. 24,28,19,33,48 alot under 50 with 1 little spike up to 2 too give me the 95... heck ill take the lower PIF's over the 98 score anyday..

hopefully things have slowed down at work and i can get back to burning..lol

in case anyone hasnt seen it yet anydvd just came out with a major update. 6.1.4.3 alot of new stuff added. the ripper seems to be a big thing with it..

    Dear valued customer,

we would like to inform you, that a new version of AnyDVD
has been released. Here the list of fixes and improvements:

    6.1.4.3 2007 05 08
    - New (DVD): AnyDVD ripper rewritten from scratch. It is no
longer based on FixVTS code. If you want more control
(stream selection, main movie only selection, ...) we
    recommend CloneDVD2 available at http://www.slysoft.com
    - New (DVD): AnyDVD ripper can now handle heavily protected discs
    - New (DVD): AnyDVD ripper output is now fully compatible with
    DVD Shrink and Nero Recode

    without prior ripping to harddisk.
    - New (DVD): Added support for new copy protections to the option to
remove "Protection based on unreadable Sectors", e.g.
    "Der freie Wille" (R2, German)
    - New (Blu-ray): Improved detection / removal of region code
Multi region (e.g. Region A+C) discs are now handled correctly
    in "automatic" region removal mode
    - Change: Workaround for registration problem on Windows Vista
    - Change: Removed AnyDVD ripper shortcut
    - Change: Installer resets file attributes before overwriting
    existing files
    - Fix: Title 10 of "Perfume", R2, German was damaged

Ripped with DVDFab & burned with ImgBurn @4x.

Finally got some new media - Verb+R DLs coded as MKM 001s.

This is interesting in that this is the second scan of this disk. The first scan had it as a 60 quality score before I stopped the scan.

Note the even distribution of peaks, not like my Riteks. It's now apparent that Ritek has difficulty with the second layer.

    Here's something interesting.

Same movie, same disks but burned at 2.4x. You'd think it would be a better burn than the one above.

Here's the same disk rescanned with the forced Hyper tuning turned off for the scan only.

hobbit112, its not unusual ar all to get a better score with a higher burn speed. to a point that is

Considering these are 2.4x rated disks I was surprised that the 4x burn scanned out better. My past results with overburning disks hasn't been good. But then, these are Verbs.

BTW, the 57 scan disk played fine with only one stutter which I thought was at the layer break.

I'm still grappling with the issue of different scores for different drives. Apparently, CD Speed has some sort of table in it's coding that tells it how to interpret the information it receives from the various drives. It appears that CD Speed thinks my Benq drive understates the total PIFs compared to the Litey but overstates the peaks?

I'd think that CD Speed would be able to adjust their internal table to more evenly report the Quality Score across the various drive manufacturers so that the Score has more meaning.
