Here's a scan of a burn out of the MatSHITa drive. Overall, looks great (haven't played it yet), but look at the jitter line. It stops at the layer break. I had a "No Sense" error at that point.

This is a Verb DL burned @ 2.4X with ImgBurn.

    Hey hobbit112
Yeah I have one of those lovely Matshita drives in my lappy.
Fine for cd's (so far at least!) but dvd's can be another story.
    I wouldn't even attempt a dual layer on it - you're brave :)
Heck last week I wanted to finish watching a movie outside so popped a dvd in the drive and guess what won't even recognize it. Next day tried another dvd (same TY's) and this time it played.
Mine can be the same w/ originals too - hit or miss.

    Hi Binkie!

I haven't had a problem with the drive recognizing disks, yet. I'm not too thrilled that it says it'll burn my lovely TY 16Xs at 8X max.(haven't found any slim drives which do yet)

The 4.7 dvd burns aren't too bad (but could be much better) but it better start improving the DL burns or this drive is gone.

BTW, just put in a new order for 2 cake boxes of Verb +R DLs from rima. $47.50 ea for 2 plus addl 5.58 shipping.

Yeah the slimlines are max burn speed of 8x.
I've had mine for almost 2 years.
All I burn on it are Taiyo - and even sometimes after it's done burning it doesn't recognize them - though they play in a player fine.
Fails when I use 16x Verbs.
I don't do a lot of dvd burning with it though - I leave that up to the big boys :) (LiteOns or Pioneer)

edit to add: Are the dl's you picked up at Rima the printables?

    Yep, they're the printables.

    1871 Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD+R 8.5GB, DL, 2.4X , White Inkjet Printable, 20-Pack (95123) 2 $47.50 $95.00
Shipping: UPS Ground: $5.58 Sales Tax: $0.00

I agree on the Matshita, it's messed up a couple of TYs of mine already too in addition to the dls. I see lite-on has a slim line drive, wonder how's it's reputation? Will have to do some research.

And now to stay on topic, here's a TY I burned this am on my BenQ @ 4X with Nero:

    @hobbit112
Tks on the tip on the dual layer!

I picked up an external instead - LiteOn. I use that at times when I burn dvd's on the lappy.

I'll have to do some scans to stay on topic:)

ok my friends got a scan here.. not good not bad.. but what makes it good in my eyes is the speed of the burn,, i turned on smartburn and maxed this 16x+r verb out and burnt it at 18x. actually 17.8 is as high as i got to see it go. here is a screen shot of imageburn and the burning speed.

and here is the scan.. a little scary at the end there but what do ya expect for a 4.4gig disc burnt at 18x...lol

gonna back it down and burn like a normal person...lol will post the reburn...lmao

rob try it at 16X and see what you get. I've seen some impressive burns at CDF's lately with the 18X and 20X Lite-ons. :)

Gotta do some burning myself, been busy with other stuff. :)

one of my first burns from a few years ago with Memorex CMC Mag media when i thought any dvd was as good as the next my daughter could not get this to play... i wonder why ?? also the disk looked flawless on the bottom no scratches or fingerprints.

    @unjust
good to see ya back in here. those are some sweet burns. minus the CMC's...lol
I Think liteon hit the nail on the head with the GLOH FW. i have no problems burning anything in the LH-18A1P drive now. and they are some very sweet burns with the newest FW.
im getting ready to back up a movie thats a few years old now. i didnt even realise it was on DVD.. a movie called Torque.. a biker movie, kinda like biker boys... will post the scan when done.

oh yea hope everyone is haven a good 4th weekend.. i know i am.. off for 5 days...lol

Found something new to burn. Burned @ 8X on LH-20A1H with Nero.

Good burn but I think the jitter on this drive is starting to increase. Anyone know how to reduce it or is it a sign the drive might be going the way of the dinosaurs?

BTW, Had a good 4th, still have all my fingers, toes & hearing!

    Howdy all!

Haven't posted a scan in awhile so decided to do one.
Here's a 8x TY burned at 8x on my kids pc - it was a virgin drive so I finally had to break it in :)
I would have done the scan w/ it to but a LG drive so not supported in Nero.
Not a bad scan for the 1st thing this drive ever burned.
