    I did a clean install so I more than likely just didn't set it again.

    I'd check now but the pc that's it on - Vision is in the midst of
    transcoding :)

    edit to add: Yep it's part of the latest version of Nero 7 - 7.10.1.0

    Here's a new one burned and scanned on a cross-flashed Sony DRU-800A that was about to go into the dumpster (erratic, bad burns) before the crossflash (Thanks for the suggestion Binkie!).

    [IMG]

    Note that Speed is reporting that this disk was burned with a Sony DW-Q28A but scanned with a Lite-On SOHW-1693S.

    This is the 3rd disk burned after the flash, the first 2 disks had magnificent ski jumps starting @ about 4.1 gigs.

    This thing might not go into the trash for a while!

    For comparison sake, same disk & scanning drive, but with 4.7.7.0:

    Nice scans hobbit. :)

    I had/have a Memorex that I cross-flashed to a SOHW-1693S. ;) I thought that it improved the quality of scans but more importantly the burns improved. :p

    Do you have Nero 7? I noticed you using the 4.7.7.0 version of CD/DVD Speed. :D

    Keep up the good "scans" people.

    Where's that cincy guy at? I wanna know if the newer version of CD/DVD Speed is working ok!! :D

    Burns have improved 100%+ since the crossflash. Before the flash, the Sony would place 1-2 massive PIF spikes on every disk, never in the same place twice in a row.

    Yes, I just loaded Nero 7 on my lappy. Had purchased it over a year ago, had alot of issues with it and uninstalled it. Been just sitting around. People seem to be having sucess with the latest version of 7 so I thought I'd give it a try again. Well, it locked up on me in NeroVision editing a menu so far. I closed with the task manager, restarted it and continued.

    BTW, the Sony now 1693S is hooked up to my lappy via an external enclosure for now.

    The new version of CDSpeed is only available now with the latest Nero 7 install.

    My now if that was a LiteOn scanning those the score would be lower!
    Not saying bad at all just shows the diff on the different burners.

    @hobbit112
    Good to see that crossflash revived the Sony :)

    Messing with some new media here ;), thought it was junk originally but seems my drives are figuring out how to burn this stuff:

    First one was burned with my Litey LH-20A1H (the first drive to figure out this media):

    [IMG]

    And here are a couple burned on the crossflashed Sony:

    Yea the 4.7.7.0 seems to actually read the disc a little better i think. ive only done 4 scans with it so far. but out of the 4 i have done 3 of them about 3-4 times each, there is very little difference in them at all. the link that describes the fetures of each version says the 4.7.7.0 just had some minor fixes to it, but i think the "minor fixes" seem to be pretty good ones. just from my point of view.i know its the new firmware and it has to learn the meida as it goes, but i havent had a 98 yet with it...lol havent burnt alot to let it really learn the stuff. im just happy with the idea i can now burn the 8x media without makeing 3 coasters before getting a good burn...

    the first scan i did up there of TORQUE. im not to thrilled with. granted the disc i pulled it from was a little damaged, had to use the LH18-A1P to rip it instead of the SHW-160P6S. plus it was the first 16x TY to be burnt with the newer firmware

    Good Scan Hobbit, by the way Rob, Nice signature, too bad they are down in the tubes so to speak this year...
    But seriously, how do you like the Lite-On LH-18A drive Rob? How does it compare with the SHW160P6S05? I've always wanted to hear from a veteran..

    @hobbit,
    What's the new toy? disc or drive?

    [IMG]
    impressive little scan :), backup of important software and I was happy to see this. recorded on the LH-18A1P
    [IMG]
    recorded on the LH-18A1P
    [IMG]
    recorded on the Pioneer DVR-112L
    [IMG]
    ALL of these discs were scanned with the LH-18A1P. ;)

    btw so far I'm not impressed with the RITEK R05 discs. The PIE's are way to high and the PIF total is more than I like to see as well. The RITEK media is cheap enough but I still say the Verbatim and TY are about as good as you can get. :)

    @blivet,
    I bet rob is thinking he can bring out the 'good luck' red's guy and turn something around. hehehe. :p @ cincy. ;)

    I think that the LH-18A1P is pretty good compared to the 160P6S, especially now with the new f/w introduction. :D Like rob has mentioned before it really rips thru the difficult discs and gives you a nice rip to boot. ;)

    @gm

    The new toy is an external Lite-On LH-20A1HX. I wanted a burner in an enclosure for the lappy. The flashed Sony isn't in an enclosure and it still has issues, won't recognize cds(burned or pressed).

    Looks like I hit a home run with the Litey! Its sweet. The burn was a disk copy, orig in the Matshita, target the Litey.
