LOCOENG The new dual cores are running fairly cool. With more efficient processors, the heat buildup is less than what has been seen in the past. Multiple cores per CPU appears to be the wave of the future. My next build will probably have one. If I were to buy a new laptop, I'd want a dual core. My wife almost talked me into getting a laptop, but the dual core laptops were still a bit scarce at the time. I don't know as how I'd want to take a PC to the pool. Though one on the houseboat would be nice. I have my encoding done before I head off to have fun or travel. I doubt I'd even be using a portable for much other than photo storage, net browsing, and email. I might use it for an occasional copy. Currently I have 2 P4 systems and an old P2 (that was a gift). So, a portable would only be needed for when I'm away from home for extended periods. My thoughts are that it's nice to have DVD burning ability with a portable (especially good for those that can afford only one system), but it's only a reserve capability for those that have a good desktop. As for laptop heat problems, most of those occur with CPUs that were intended for desktops. Most of the dedicated mobile processors are now lower power with less heat. Pay attention to what actually has to be there for a an Intel system to be a Centrino.
LOL...the pool is in my backyard and I usually only get in when I'm cleaning it. The wirelss reaches quite nicely poolside and it's nice to get outdoors from time to time. *tip toeing...stalking brobear and creaky* My knowledge only carries me as far as what I've read from the two other knowledgable individuals in this thread.
My idea of outside is more like drinks on a shaded veranda overlooking the pool. The covered front deck of my houseboat is a good outside as well. Sunshine is nice, but I don't like abusing myself with it. As for listening to knowledgable members here, I know Creaky is a Brainiac, but have you been talking to yourself? You said 2. LOL
