thank you waffleman... but how do i check whether my firmware's up to date or not?/ i went to the sony site and they have two firmware upgrades available for my model (i need the AD-7170 for my SONY DVD RW AW G-170A dvd burner... i confirmed this) both released on 14th april this year itself that is 2008...then i dont think mine's up to date... now the problem is they have TWO upgrades for AD-7170... one saying AD-7170 P-ATA and the other's AD-7170 S-ATA... and they clearly mention at the begining of the page : "Dear customer, please don't try to flash a S-ATA device with a P-ATA firmware and vice versa. You could damage your drive in doing so. To be on the save side, please read the Update Procedure under menu item 'Firmware updates' before you flash the drive. Our firmware installer is only available as a WindowsInstaller. " and in the Update Procedure they have said: " Read this first - How to flash a drive (Short introduction) 1. Download appropriate Firware and unzip the file into a folder of your choice. 2. Launch the exe-file to flash your drive. 3. In case of difficulties, please flash the drive in PIO mode - Changeable in WinXP & W2K/Vista in the device manager - "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers", choose the right channel and switch from DMA to PIO mode. 4. Flash your drive and restart the pc. Important: Do not turn off power during the flashing process. Note: Warranty will be lost during false flashing procedure, especially when unofficial modified firmwares were used before. In such cases we cannot offer you any further solution. You will then be responsible for repair costs." so how do i figure out which one to use?? i am clue less! thank you
its saying target optiarc device not found correctly!!! i even changed it to PIO mode... no use its still saying the same thing
I will start off with a few basic questions before I post all the technical info... I have burned tons of DVD+Rs, and had a few movies that required DVD+R DL's... yesterday I got a 25 pack spindle of Memorex DVDR+DL 8x discs. I just use DVDFab 5, DVD Shrink and DVD Decryptor. Everything went fin until I threw in the DVD+R DL and attempted to start DVD Decryptor. The typical Power Calibration Error came up! My question is, is it necessary to use Nero in the process? Do I have firmware? How do I update my firmware? If these questions can only be answered after seeing my technical data, let me know. I'm gonna be annoyed if I spent $30 on these DVD+R DLs and they are all gonna become coasters! ARGH! Thanks in advance guys.
I won't/don't use dual layer media but your best bet is to use imgburn (free, www.imgburn.com) it's infinitely better than Nero, not least where dual layer is concerned
I have a sony dvd aw g170a dvd writer. Whatever dvd brand I try, I always get a power claibration error. Can somone please tell me how to fix this. I evene tried flashing it to an optiarc firmware, but no use. Could someone please help me out here?
Here is my problem Everything was working fine until I tried for the first time to use a Ritek DVD-R disc. i got the power calibration error. It would spin up once, make some clicking noises, and then give me the error. I have the latest firmware. it's an Optiarc/NEC 7071a drive. Well, then i put a DVD+R in there that I always use, Ritek. It worked fine. i put another one in and at the end when it was closing, it started making noises and took longer than usual and then said it was done but when went to play it back, it said no disc was inserted. I tried to play it on standalone and nothing. Then I tried another DVD+R and it worked fine. To make a long story short, every other one works with the DVD+R. So do you think I have BOTH problems maybe? What throws a wrench in it is that the first coaster i got from a plus disc was after opening a new spindle. Never, ever got a single one before that. So now I don't know if it could be a bad drive or bad discs, although I am tending to lean toward a bad drive since I'm getting coasters now and it's making odd clicking noises when finalizing the disc. Does this sound like the problem to you? If you had to replace yours, would you replace with the same DVD burner? I thought these were supposed to be good. I have burned approx 1,000 DVDs on it to date. Any other recommendations? Thanks a bunch for taking the time out to help me here :O) Gina xoxo
Hi, I am having the same kind of problem with my "MATSHITA DVD RAM UJ-861S" DVD writer. I am using Vista Ultimate x32 & my laptop is ASUS F6S. it used to work well. i wrote dvd & cds. recently when i was trying to burm DVD-RW, it was unable to detect it. then sometimes when it detects & i try to erase the disc it says "illigal block size for command". previously my dvd burner also gave wrror like "power calibration error", and many burning were failed in 6% but later on this problem was solved by itself. i don't know how it was solved. now my dvd burner can write and erase CD-RW successfully but unable to burn DVD-RW. please give me a solution. it's really killing me. i already wasted almost 20 DVD's and 2 of my DVD-RW disc is not working. when i insert it, it's not detected and can't even erase it, as the Erase button is inactive in my NERO. waiting for your reply. *********************************************************** LOG FILE NT-SPTI used Nero Version: 7.9.6.2 Internal Version: 7, 9, 6, 2 (Nero Express) Recorder: <MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-861S>Version: 1.00 - HA 1 TA 0 - 7.9.6.2 Adapter driver: <IDE> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : via Inquiry data (1) -> ATAPI, detected: ?
