What are you guys thoughts on Ultra Psu? I'm looking at the Ultra 650lsp and i was wondering if any of you had problem with those psu. I can't afford much and Ultra seem to be a quick fix for the moment
Ultra PSUs are pretty terrible, hence why they're cheap. They've made some reasonable units, but most are poorly made. If you need a cheap PSU go with something like a Corsair CX, it can do pretty much anything except power a graphics card with more than one PCIe connector [if this covers you then post back]
Quick fix? I wouldn't do that if I were you. The power supply is the heart of the machine. If you go cheap, you're asking for trouble. Sorry... Definitely recommend Corsair. Even their cheapest model.
Really ? event backed up with a lifetime warranty Unfortunately the lower end corsair dont have P4 4 pin or can i use the 8 pins one ?? Ontario Ive bought from this store before Thx for the link i think this should be enough for what i need http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?prodID=6634 i only need enough power for a dual core(quad core upgrade in the next few weeks) with 4gb of ram 2 dvd drive 2 harddrive and an hd5770 all siting in a HAF932 so if 450w is enough thats fine with me thx for the reply and helping making a good decision
When we recommend Corsair PSU's, were not simply fanboys thrusting our loved brands at you. Corsair is a great manufacturer. Coolermaster generally does not make Great PSU's. Some of them may be agreeable, but they're certainly not an enthusiast level product
Either of the corsair power supplies will give you a great deal of power. But if you plan on running a powerful GPU, I would recommend at least the 550W. But since you only run a 5770, which only requires 1 6 pin connector, the 450W supply should be ample Not sure what you mean by 4 pin? an 8pin power supply can supply a board with only a 4 pin female port
Correct me if im wrong 4 pin P4 and the corsair has 8 pin P4 so i can use the 8 pin with my board that only take the 4 pin ?
Whysper: Lifetime warranty only honours the PSU itself. If a cheap PSU goes bad and destroys the rest of your system too (happens more often than you'd think) you're not covered for that. Buy a quality unit, you won't regret it. All PSUs have had 8-pin P4s for several years, you can't buy one without. Where you may be getting confused is 8-pin P4 connector (it's not actually called P4, it's called ATX +12V) is not the same as an 8-pin PCI express graphics connector. This is said connector I was talking about for higher-end graphics cards. Your HD5770 only uses the 6-pin of these two. Higher end cards require the 8-pin as well (or sometimes just another 6-pin) which the CX400 and VX450 don't have. They do however have the 8-pin ATX +12V connector for the motherboard.
Shaff, you don't think it would fit? I mean, you don't think there is enough space, between each 4 pin? It seems like I have done this...
4-pin to 8-pin adapters are inadvisable and pointless. Any PC that uses little enough power to work off a 4-pin will still work with just a 4-pin. A high-end system that needs an 8-pin should never use an adapter, it's too much current to run through two wires per polarity, those connectors are already rated at 3A per wire.

This is gonna be the 3rd psu in a year so i want something that's gonna last and with the addition of a new video card and a new case i cant really afford much at the moment
Only PSUs I've had go bad on me so far were the cheap nasty ones, which is why I never tell people to buy them.
