BroBear and others, The DVD is brand new. So I don't think it's poor condition. However clone DVD reports that the DVD is dirty. Which isn't the case. I'm beginning to think it's a bad press of the dvd or something. At any rate, I've had some success going at the problem another way. I downloaded a trial of Blindwrite 5. I used it to make an exact image of the dvd. The image plays just fine when mounted in Daemon tools. The problem I'm now having is getting Dual Layer media which will work in my Lite-on 1213S drive. So far I've tried Memorex and Verbatim. My drive doesn't recognize either brand. I'm hoping once I find something that works, I'll be all set.
that's odd use decrypter to tell us what your drives capabilities are and make sure you are using a supported format ie...-r/+r/rw imo throw the memorex away stick to the verb's! have you updated the firmware lately?? here's a link for your firmware newest seems to be in decemberodds are you'll need it! http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces on a side note I wonder if you can open the disk image through shrink to compress now use file>>open disk image to browse for your file see if you are still getting errors I don't know how blindwrite deals w/ i/o's or if it just copies what it sees you may have the same prob's w/ the image! L8
I have a 1213 that I upped to a 1653 with CSOT and that way it's hip to alot more media and burns a lot better. If you don't mind losing your warranty which is probably gone on that old a model anyway it will do alot better and might help with your problems and like the guy said stick with verbs for your dl needs.
L8ter, According to Nero Infotool my Lite on Drive will write to either DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL. However when I check run decrypter drive capabilities it says I have no dual layer write capabilities. Based on the fact that I can't seem to get any media to work in the drive I'm inclined to believe Decrypter. I did a firmware update last week when I was grasping at straws trying to backup this darn DVD. When I bought the drive I was told it was a dual layer burner. I guess I was told wrong! DVD Skrink doesn't support the B5T File extension Blindwrite creates. So I mounted it with Daemon tools to try out DVD Shrink like you asked. It still gives me a DVD navigation error.
Like I said if you up it to a 1653 you will have double layer capabilities and good ones at that. It's simple to do with the codeboys firmwares. codeguys.rpc1.org
johnnyd54, I've been looking at the site you mentioned. I'm definately going to do it. Did you use the 1653S.CS0T.patched-cf-mcled Firmware? Thanks so much to everyone
I consider a bad press to be poor condition. Flaws can't always be seen. I've gotten new DVDs that had factory flaws (a bad press). They would play, but not record. Why thank us when you continue to do things the way you want and only partially follow sugguestions? You should have either followed alkohol's instructions or mine, yet you persisted in doing it your way. It doesn't appear my help is wanted. G'day and good luck.
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters...=&orderby=Name&hits=25&Search=Search&country= no your drive does not support dl I personally would not cross flash it, a new dl burner can be found for around 50$ or less! http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1862 this is the link I tried to post in my last post sorry for the confusion! the newest for your drive is the tsoj! good luck!
@thegisguy Yes I did use the csot and it will burn double layer with the upgrade and do a darn good job if you ask me. Just go to the cdfreaks liteon forum and do a little search and you will find out all you need to know. Good luck -- Johnny
johnnyd54 & L8ter & BroBear, Johnnyd54: I upgraded my 1213S to the 1653S, as you mentioned, and I now have a DL burner. L8ter: thanks for the research on my drive. Brobear: Sorry if I offened you. Despite what you might think I had been following your instructions. After your instructions didn't work I tried something on my own. If doing that offened you, I'm sorry. BTW: By backup attempt with Blindwrite resulted in a clean burn. The DVD plays in my player, but with green blobs. Oh well. It's got to be a garbage DVD.
Not offended, you should have said "that didn't work". Your not responding to posts made by members (Alkohol and me) who've worked with similar problems on several occasions tends to waste everyone's time. There's usually some method to what we do and suggest. Often a particular step supplies us with info we need to help diagnose the problem. My next suggestion would have been to scan the disc for errors. As Alkohol and I both pointed out, if a sure fire method doesn't work, you're probably looking at a bad press. Seems in this case Alkohol and I were right. Glad to see you finally got to the root of the problem.
For future reference, do a read scan with DVDInfoPro or Nero of the problem disc. You should see bad sectors on the graph corresponding to the problem area on the disc. Knowing what it looks like will help you spot a similar flaw in the future. Then do a scan of a good disc so you can see what a trouble free one looks like for comparison.
@thegisguy Good luck with your drive. I think you will enjoy it as a 1653. By the way I ran up on a 1633 today and guess what it will be before the day is over.
