    @ maskeeta,

    i believe, if u have esay cd/dvd 6, then u have to remove it with that version of roxio zap 6

    i think u r trying to remove it with roxio zap that is meant for verions 4,5 which u said doesn't work

    ^if you go to that link nad then click on screenshots, you can see it says "This application will ZAP files directorsi eand registry entries associated with Easy CD creator 4 and 5 and should not be run on a machine which has Esay CD and DVD creator 6 currently installed"

    i have 6 and did run this before, and it looks liek i wasnt supposed to. is there even a ZAP for 6?

    I can't find one specific to 6. When you try & uninstall Roxio from add/remove programs in control panel - are you given any options - like update, repair, uninstall (not normally are but just checking).

    well it gives the option to change or remove. if you click on change then you get option to midfy, repair or uninstall. i tried repair and it says i need the cd-rom.

    when i click on remove. a windows installer box pops up and its says "gathering information" then an error pops up that says "Error 1316.A network errot has occured while attempting to read from the file C:WINNT\Installer\ECDC6.msi. then once i hit ok, i says fat error during uninstallation.

    i never tried uninstalling it before i used ZAP initially the first time, so im guessing that whats caused the problem.

    @arniebear
    Txs - I was at their site and saw this but didn't see the dl link:) Need to get glasses :0)

    @maskeeta
    Possibly - from the info arniebear supplied from nero - it does happen in rare cases. Some you might as well rule it out.
    Go to http://roxio.com - support section - choose your product. Click on 'ask roxann' type in uninstall and click on 'unable to remove from add/remove programs' they will give you instructions and a windows utility link to uninstall the program.

    Did you ever run ccleaner? (see 1st page of thread).
    Msy not help but will help cleanup any conflicts, temp files etc. Pretty safe program.

    You can try again - might as well if you don't mind maybe another coaster.
    The other 2 things I think left to rule out are the drive and the ide cable.
    So let's try with just the burner in - disconnect the dvd rom drive.
    Next would be trying in another pc which I know you said might be a problem.

    just got antoehr coaster :(

    yeah i did run cccleaner.

    just to clarifiy the next step: right now i have my burner in the master and the dvd-rom on the slave. before i switched that the burner was on the slave cable and the dvd-rom was on the master, but the jumpers were both on cable select. so you're saying to unhook the dvd-rom from the slave cable its now on and keep the burner in on the master?

    is that checking the ide cable?

    The best test for the ide cable is getting a new one or trying another pc.
    Are you using an 80 wire ide cable (blue, black and grey connectors) or using the cable select one?

    If your PC is old or your GHz is low your burner eye runs longer overheats and just like a cheap little bulb it burns out

    Hi maskeeta
    Ok so the last 2 things left on the drive - is the drive itself or cable - I'm guessing since both drives were set to cable select you are using a cable select cable. You've basically ruled everything else.

    So cheaper you could just pick up an 80 wire & set both drives as cable select(see link below) or just take the drive back if it's still under costco warranty from your earlier post. Myself - I would still get a new 80 ide cable.
    Here's more info on cable select (txs arniebear for the link):
    http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confCS-c.html

    Now the ram - is that what's showing up under 'system' in 'control panel'? You may have a stick that went bad. Run a diagnostic tool to test it. If you need one you can try this free one:

    edit: spelling

    it says 512 MB under system. memtest had no errors. the 256 was from the gateway website of what i bought.

    ill have to pick up 80 wire cable. i went to costco last week and they didnt have any burners, ill have to find antoehr store that lets you return things that have been opened, need be. the drive i have now is out of warranty

    Ok then your fine on the ram - I didn't realize that was from gateway's website.
    Good luck on finding a store that will let you return something opened but I don't know costco return policy.

    You may want to check out newegg.com for a burner/cable. Good ones imho in order my price as BenQ, Liteon, Plextor.
