i got an new ide cable and that didnt work, i had the burner on the slave and the dvd-rom on the primary, both jumpers on cable select.....ahhhhh

try cable select for master and slave for the outher most of the time you should run master and slave not CS for both
make sure you unplug your PC after you unplug it push the start buttom to discharge any left over electric charge in your PC then discharge yourself of static elec. on the outside cover before you put your hands inside or you will have more problems
Also while you have it opened up and unpluged and discharged blow or suck out the dust It will build up collect moisture and discharge a short and screw up all kinds of stuff !
@ maskeeta Do you have the original software to "reinstall" over what's left of the original instalation? This in order to recomplete the program and attempt further diagnosis. Two times through the thread and what comes to mind is something that I've seen in others = Nero 7 + Shrink = eventual failure. Although your "sense key" errors are giving the impresion that it is having difficulty in reading/burning, can you "play" a DVD through that drive? If so check settings on ControlPanel> Admin Tools> Comp. Mgmtm> Storage> DiskMmgmt.> -insert a dvd and ensure that drive is reading all as "healthy". This is just to ensure that your laser is functioning correctly. If you have other issues please post back...
@ maskeeta The error you mentioned that you received. That particular error message is from Roxio Easy CD Creator. That could very well be your problem. If you have Nero 7 & Roxio then they are contradicting each other. I have Roxio on my machine also. In the task bar close to the clock you will see a Roxio drag to disk. Make sure this is closed. Also in the task bar with start up items there is a Roxio Drag To Disk icon. Right click that and exit. Maybe that will get you straightened out. Now if you had Roxio and removed it from Add/Remove programs, there are still registry entries from the Roxio that need to be removed. If that is the case let me know and I can walk you through removing them. [bold]Edit: Error 1316.A is a network error. It probably has something to do with Roxio also.[/bold]
Then as long as you have the Nero CD we need to clean your registry. First uninstall Nero from [bold]Add/Remove Programs[/bold] click Start-> Run and in the dialog box type regedit. Now remember to only remove certain items, this is important so you do not mess up any registry entries. When the registry opens you will notice a divided window. The window on the left make sure My Computer is highlighted. This is where it will start looking. Now because I don't want you to mess anything up I want you to do each entry three times. This means that after it says, "End of Registry", go back to the top and highlight My Computer again. Now for a couple of things you need to know. Look at each entry before you delete it. You want to make sure the entry that you are deleting is one that you need to delete. Second thing is you can tell it to move to the next entry by pressing F3. Each entry you want to delete press the delete key and then enter because it will ask you if you are sure. This will get you through the process faster. Now on the registry select Edit-> Find and when the box opens type Roxio and make sure all three selections are checked: Keys, Values, and Data. Now select Find Next and it will start searching. After you have done Roxio three times, then do Nero, followed by Easy. After you have done each three times there should be no more items. If on your third time you are still finding items then do it four times to be on the safe side. After that I want you to go to hijack-this.org and download the program. Run it and post a log for me to look at. After I look at the log and we make sure your machine is clean of all infections then you may Install Nero. This is the only way to get your machine operational again. Just follow my instructions and do not delete something that is not Roxio or Nero related. Just a note for you: If there is an item that won't delete it probably says that it holds not value. Don't worry just proceed with the removing. Please be careful. I wish I were there to do this! Well, you got an error burning with decrypter because Nero 7 is not compatible with it. try something different. Don't worry about your registry just yet. Do you have ImgTool & ImgBurn? If not then you can find them here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/imgtool_classic.cfm http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/imgburn.cfm Now once your movie is shrunk to your hard drive run ImgTool. After you run the image through ImgTool then run it through ImgBurn. Let me know it you get a good quality burn out of it. Do you have the Key for Nero7? If you do you can download it off the site here and use your key for registering it.
what settings do i want in imgtool, split in 1GB chunks? check source directory size? i beleive i have the key for Nero 7
I have mine set to check source directory size. I'm sure either one will be fine. See the image has already been shrunk, and this tool just sets the image for the burning. Also in the setting you can have it burn with DVD Decrypter if you want to. Make sure that you have the key before we clean the registry!
Is the key the same as the Serial#, cuz i can problably find that in the program itslef somehow. i know i have it written down soemwhere too. so what does imagburn doo if i can burn through imagtool. im at work now so i cant really do anyhting.
I had nero7 and roxio6 and 8 I started all of this uninstalling stuff I used nero sweep It wiped out all finds of outher files I now have a hard drive on the shelf with roxio 8 on it and the hard drive im using now has nero 6 ultra I switch then to run either nero or roxio I screwed up my OS trying to remove them they are dug in like a ALABAMA TICK good luck
@ rbrock You will have to do a registry sweep to remove them. Follow the link posted above for maskeeta. That will probably fix the issue. @ maskeeta Yes the key is the serial #. I will check with binkie7 and make sure that the key will work for registration before we proceed. The reason you use ImgTool is because ImgBurn can not reed the file in its current format. Use ImgTool to change the format for ImgBur to recognize.
my source directy for imagetool wont let my get the iso images, can i not use iso's as a source directory in imagetool? the dvd files have already been through dvdshrink as outputted as ISO's
maskeeta- The following picture shows how I do it. My original folder that I named and used Shrink is of course on top. I create another folder for the image to be located under that. Then I press create image button. It is really simple. After you do that then ImgBurn will be able to burn the image file. I want to make sure that it is the software and not the burner. If you are able to burn the movie this way then I know it is the software. Let me know how it works out for you.
