Hi, I have a weird problem with my DVD+RW recorder. I burn rewritable DVDs with no problem but I’ve got to burn recordable DVD+R just a couple of times out of at least a hundred attempts. I’m using nero, in XP SP1, IDEs seem to be Ok, no InCD installed nor other burning software. I have tried many different media s.a. HP, EMTEC, FUJI,…
Here is Nero Log. Any help will be tremendously appreciated (desperately needed!!)
    Thanks in advance!

You may like to remove your Nero serial number under OEM at the start of the log.
Nero needs an update, there has been many updates since your version.
Tell me exactly the process you are are using from the beginning when you decide to copy a movie, this will help in soughting out your issue.

I tried with up-to-date versions before and had the same problem plus new ones, so I decided not to update nero last time I formatted my HD.
What I do is open Nero from de main Nero Burning ROM SE application, not from Nero Express, drag and drop the file/s (I’ve tried everything small or big files, even a single picture on a finalized DVD) the only thing I’ve changed is the burning speed from 4x to 2x... same result.

If you are using DVD Shrink then you can go to preferences and tick the box that says 'allow burning with Nero'.
So when Shrink has finished it will automatically activate nero to burn.
I have used this method for over a year and had no problems at all.
Your burn speed of 4x should be fine, as long as you are using good brand blank media.
Make sure you don't multitask while you are copying/burning as your CPU needs all the resourses available and make sure firewalls, virus scanners and screensavers are turned off as well.
give that a go and see if it helps.
You also should remove your Nero serial number from your log post as it is open to the world.
    lets know how you go.

Thank you so much for answering so fast. Serial removed, I’m new in the forum and didn’t how to do it.
Thanks for the advice but I’m not trying to rip a DVD and back it up on a recordable DVD. I’m trying to copy files such as pictures, dvix movies, mp3… directly as data on a DVD as you can do on CDs. That is what Nero (and other burning programs I have tried) doesn’t feel like doing on a recordable DVD bud does on a rewritable DVD without problem, that makes me think is not a hardware problem (hopefully). I have tried with many different media (HP, FUJI, EMTEC, Philips and TDK) which Nero recognizes as blank media before burning. Don’t know what to do! Thanks again for your concern!

I never said you needed the ASPI... Have you tried to burn to the image drive? This could narrow it down to software or hardware issue.

I did, no problems burning the image on the HD. But I still do not understand how can I burn CDR, CDRW and DVD+RW and not DVD+R. Recording at speeds lower than 2x during the whole process, if that´s of any help. Is there a way to force Nero to burn at a lower speed?
hope its not hardware dont tell me it is please!

No luck, I updated the firmware (HP), and tried again with different media but nothing has changed.
    There are three different firmwares:

    LG HL-DT-ST GWA-4040N (GCA-4040N)
RPC1 Firmwares based on B107 (DELL) Windows, 1.19 (HP) Windows, and 1.02 (ARIMA) Windows.
Do you know that’s the difference between them?

I’ll try with verbatim or traxdata which I haven’t jet try, but I’m loosing hope already.

    Thank you

Nero just allows me to burn at 4x and 2x is there any way to force it to burn at 1x? do you think that would help? (when I burned into the HD it didn’t get past 1,8x).

Hi all, I have tried several things and am sitll having problems with AnyDVD/Nero. I wonder is there is anything to the fact that on the new compelation menu the "finalize dvd" option is subdued implying it is not active. Since we are using +r media and not RW everything I have read says the DVD must be finalized. Does anyonw know how we can activate that option??

    Thanks,

    WGO
