    Ok, first the facts:

New card --> ATI Radeon X1650 Pro AGP
Old card --> ATI Radeon X850 Pro AGP

First thing I did was uninstall the Catalyst software/drivers from the X850. I then shut down, opened the machine and took out the X850. I put in the X1650, put everything back together, and booted up.

Now everything runs fine on the default graphics thing (albeit low res, and not too quick...). When I try to install the Graphics Card setup CD, I get this error: http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/2039/atiproblempm0.png

I've used ATI's Catalyst uninstaller in case I had missed anything, so that stuff should definitely be gone.

I downloaded the drivers from ATI's website for my new card, but got the exact same error message trying to install those.

I don't have any experience installing new graphics cards, and I'm really hoping someone here can help me out. :/

If there's anything more you need to know, or something I should do/try, please post it.

    Thanks

Hey, you have to uninstall all ati programs utilities and drivers.

Uninstall all ATI software in add/remove programs.

In Device manager, click on display adapters and find the ATI Card.
Right click on it and uninstall. You should have the standard windows drivers now.

Run the catalyst uninstall software to be sure.

Reboot and install new drivers.......see if that works..

I had done all that, except for the Device Manager part. In my Device Manager I don't have a "Display Adapters" option, but I've already used ATI's uninstall software so maybe that's why.

Now when I reboot and try to run the setup CD that came with the card, it gives me the error I posted: http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/2039/atiproblempm0.png

I've tried getting the latest drivers for my card manually from ATI's site, too (advanced and basic setups), and nothing has worked so far. I get the same error for every way I try to install the drivers: http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/2039/atiproblempm0.png

    ><

I'm really hoping there's an easy solution that I haven't caught on to :/

My motherboard is: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. P4P800SE Rev 2.xx

I got an ASUS ATI vga drivers download, but when I try to install it I get an error: http://img525.imageshack.us/my.php?image=asuserrorgx6.png

So now it seems I can't install ATI drivers, because my VGA driver is wrong/bad/absent...but I can't install VGA drivers either.

I've seen a lot of posts over various forums (google searches) about this, and still don't have an answer out of the many posts I've read. Reinstalling Windows really isn't an option for me. ><

Thank you for your reply, btw, ianski.
