Something's wrong with my Sony DRU720A DVD drive!
Most of the time inserting discs with data in it are being recognized as blank discs and the time taken for the computer to detect the disc is annoying long(1 min or so)! I remember flashing my drive to the latest firmware in order to enable my media to burn in NERO 6.6.0.18. Only 2 of the discs managed to burn properly, after that all i got are illegal disc errors(and a few other errors all at the same time, can't remember though) at around 80%(more coasters). Furthermore, I couldn't get my DVD-RW to format at all(it would just auto eject during the formatting process)
    Please help!

HERES how to get ur DMA on

This could be your biggest problem, Not very good disks at all.
Verbatims and Taiyo Yudens are the best. try these for the best results

U have Roxio installed, could conflict with nero run this tool to get rid of it.

IMO i would not use nero to burn ISO files, i dont think nero is that good at it, I prefer to burn ISO's with ImgBurn(Free)

Problem is now that i couldn't get my burner to work properly. Not sure really whether this is the cause of Nero failing to burn but i guess my burner laser is dying. I tried with quite a number of data discs i burnt before.Whenever i insert any DVD into the drive, For some those would just be detected as blank discs, however for the rest the burner will just make a somewhat loud clicking noise and the drive tries to read the discs and stays in that state forever. However there was no such problem using CDs.
Right now i am puzzled whether its a sign of laser wear and tear or some messed up firmware configuration... Please help

Hello all. I wonder if you could give me some suggestions. I've had my lg super-multi external dvd burner gsa-2166d for about 15 months now. I've burned 300+ dvds by now. Now I keep getting "media write error". I use taiyo yuden premium silver 8x dvd-r discs. Sometimes if I eject the disc and reinsert it after about 3 or 4 times it will burn. Sometimes it won't burn at all. I've tried various burning engines; Nero, clonedvd2, imgburn,etc... What I want to know is if my burner is dead. I also have the latest firmware installed. Thanx in advance.
