It all started when I had problems burning onto Memorex media (DVD-R) with my Sony DVD RW DRU-710A. It was getting to the end of the burn and then it would error out. Some error telling me how the disc at once wouldn't work.

I took the more expensive and less thoughtful approach and decided to buy another DVD burner. Although, I needed a second drive anyhow. I purchased a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-112D.

I tried burning my first DVD on the Pioneer and it errored out immediately. I then decided that maybe the media was bad. I went out and purchased some Sony DVD-Rs. The first burn worked using the Sony DVD-Rs. However, when I stuck the new media in the Sony DVD burner it would not recognize the blank media.

I burned a few more DVDs on the Pioneer and started having issues with that burner. I'll attach the latest Nero log for the last failed burn attempt with the Pioneer.

I have the Pioneer set as master and the Sony as slave.

I've already fixed the ASPI problem that Nero said that I had & ran ccleaner.

So basically, my old burner doesn't recognize blank media and my new burner works only intermediately.

I've been burning ISOs (movies) created using DVD Shrink.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Here is my latest Nero log:

If you have a Dell pc, then you need to check your manual, usually Dells use "cable select" as their jumper settings. The end of the cable drive will be the master and the middle cable drive will be slave but both have their jumpers set to "cable select". JM2C

Edit: you might also try burning those ISOs with ImgBurn (free)

    http://www.imgburn.com

Slow burn time down to 8X

    Check your burner's firmware here:

I was able to have a successful burn with ImgBurn 3/5 times. The other two times it said that it had completed the burn, however, you could tell by looking at the underside that only 1/4 of the DVD had been written on.

Also, I'm still not able to get the Sony drive to recognize blank media.

I haven't tried upgrading the firmware. I don't have time at the moment - have to get ready for work. I'm a little mystified at how this became an issue all of a sudden. Especially with the Sony drive. After installing the Pioneer drive - I wonder if Windows XP did some wacky stuff with plug-n-play (pray) while configuring the new drive. I've tried both of them independently and am still having issues.

    No Dell here.

I did upgrade the firmware on both drives. Also, I upgraded to Nero 7.8.5.0

The Sony drive now works. Still having issues with the Pioneer drive not burning correctly. It will occasionly burn correctly, otherwise, it will stop at about 1/4 through the DVD. However, the burn session does not error out and according to ImgBurn & Nero it completed the burn successfully.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!
