I have the same problem with PowerDVD9. Even though the IFO is Windows associated with PowerDVD9 it does not support automatically running these files when selected from Windows Explorer. Nero and Windows Media Player do. It has nothing to do with corrupt Windows or files for installaton that went wrong. The only way to run it from the harddrive is from PowerDVD 9's own browser,as you already know. This is not the way I want to do it all the time.
Hi rlassiter and thanks, I too don't like the way PowerDVD works; however, I am absolutly sure that with one of it's previous versions I could play any IFO file in the same way as a VOB file, namely, by double-clicking on the file, and that when I played an IFO file, I could select the subtitles. That's why - when I saw I cann't play an IFO file by double-clicking on it - I thougt there must be something wrong with my present PowerDVD (version 9)or with my system. Unfortunately, I don't remember what version of PowerDVD was the one I could do it with. Incidentally, I have noticed, that although with Windows Media Player (if it's your default player for DVDs)you can play any IFO file by double-clickng on it - and you can select subtitles, if that player is in "full mode" - you actually don't see the subtitles(my Windows Media Player is of version 11). I don't have Nero, because it's a too "cluterred" program, hence I couldn't try to use the Nero player. Can one get that player without installing other pats of Nero? stibi
Hi lordsmurf and thanks, I knew about VLC playing folders as well as discs, and that after the player openes one can select the desired subtitles by right-clicking on the player > Select Videos>. Incidentally - unlike in Windows Media Player (but not when it plays in the "full mode")- the VLC does not show the languages of the selectable subtitles, only numbers. Well, I don't say it's "a big deal", since, I presume, that in most cases the list of selectable languages isn't long. As to the Gom Player:- After getting your message I have downloaded that player, and played with it any VOB file, to see how it handles the subtitles. I right-clicked on the player, selected DVD Control > Subtitle Option and selected any of the available languages. To my surprise, I did see no subtitles. Can you think of some reason for that? Thanks in advance. stibi
