I've downloaded this wondeful piece of AV But for the past week or so I've been unable to connect to the update Database. I've since reinstalled WinXP and downloaded it again from the AVGfree site. Still won't update. I've tinkered with lots of settings I think could affect it, even tried turning off my firewall (sygate). No effect. Has anyone else had this problem?
The only thread that springs to mind is this one, and that was ages ago - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/693124 however mine's been fine since that thread; i update manually frequently, it's just habit of mine
Well I can manually update from file - but regclean, reinstall abd tampering with firewall and AVG setting have no effect.
Just manually updated mine successfully, Do you receive any error messages ?, there's only one error i've come across a couple of times, the exact details escape me but the fix involves deleting a couple of AVG's files edit- The error i was thinking of that stops updating is something along the lines of "Invalid Update Control CTF File" and the fix is very simple, just delete the .ctf files in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\avg8\update\download
