@dgclough, First eliminate the bad media possiblilty. It is the cheapest and easiest thing to fix. Use good media, burn slowly, defrage HD, don't multi-task while burning, and you should get perfect copies. MEDIA is the biggest offender for skipping/freezing followed by burning too fast. Once you have used a good media disc something like Taiyo Yudens or Verbatims, and you still get the problem, then start looking for other sources of your problem, but do not dismiss the bad media as your root cause until you have tried a burn using good media and burning slowly. Good luck.
Ok, I looked at walmart for the verbatims: they have 2 types, DVD +R double layer 8.5 gb disks; or 16x DVD +R: Which would be better and why?
if you found the Verbatims @ walmart in the dvd+r format, for YOUR particular situation, i would actually recommend the Verbatim 8x dvd+r if they have any there...it's media ID coding is MCC003 and is GREAT STUFF, check my sig... also, i have also have GREAT success with the 16x Verbatim dvd+R, which is MCC004 coding, another WINNER, but you have to be careful with this media if you don't change the burn speed to 8x or LOWER and forget that it's set @ maximum speed, you WILL most likely get a coaster as burning @16x is NEVER recommended, regardless of media quality~ and lastly, the DVD +R double layer 8.5 gb disks that you mentioned...maxburn knows the trouble in OBTAINING these all too well, thanks again buddy by the way, but, if you want NO compression on your movie/dvd backups, then the "double layer" is THE WAY to go~ Verbatim DL discs are GREAT, live up to the great quality that Verbatim MCC discs have...the media ID coding on those are MKM001, which HAPPENS to be the parent company of MCC, etc. etc...who is then the parent company of Verbatim...so, basically, the family line is there~ in terms of quality, they are all one big happy family, so you are GOOD TO go with either of the 2 Verbatims you asked about...hehe, lastly, these will MORE THAN LIKELY ALL be MADE IN TAIWAN, good luck finding any "made in japan" Verbatims HERE IN THE U.S., NOT GONNA HAPPEN~ so far anyways...who knows what the future will bring... good luck dgclough~
Thanks so much, I always burn at 4x so that problem is out of the way. I don't know how/why to do the 'without compression', so I'll stick to the plain way I've been (using the DVD help file found online here w/ decrytptor and shrink)..Thanks, I'll get some today and see what happens!!!
