    Hey,

I've been given a faulty usb drive in need of some attention. Basically it contains my friends essays for her universirty course.
I do not need the drive to be fixed as such just need it to recover the data. I have opened it up and have resoldered all the points to guarantee a connection. I have used a magnifiying glass and can 100% assure you that there is connection.
When you plug the USB drive into a computer the red light on the usb stick lights up however nothing happens on the computer. Im really stumped for ideas. Im willing to try anything. I also have a spare working usb drive ready to take apart for spares!

Any help would be soo much appreciated!

    Thanks

    Lecsiy

Resoldered all the joints to guarantee a (thermal) connection to a cooked flash RAM chip...

Probably the flash memory chip had died before you even attacked it with a soldering iron, so it didn't suffer. (Let us hope)

Was the soldering iron a temperature controlled, low voltage, grounded type? Anyway, kiss the data goodbye.
