ZebUK Either you don't have the copyright protection used on the region 1 release or you've edited something. Here's what happens if you use a rip from DVD Decrypter with the normal settings in use with a Region 1 release of "Narnia".
Yup, had that and got round it without editing anything. As I said, I just made a topic (titled "How to copy Narnia & Madagascar") and would appreciate feedback.
"The Fog", "The Legend of Zorro", "Madagascar", "The Cave", "The Chronicles of Narnia", ... The list goes on. There's a bunch that DVD Decrypter and Shrink can't do alone. There's editing that can be done, but even then, some of those releases have to be processed for compliance. So, you may be using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, but other than with editing on your part and processing with other software, you're not going to get a bunch of the new Disney and Sony releases done. I've already done enough of these releases from Region 1 that I know for a fact that DVD Decrypter and Shrink won't work alone. On some of them, the current version of AnyDVD wouldn't even work alone. AnyDVD has continuing support though. Neither Shrink nor DVD have support anymore. The software for bypassing and processing the files for copyright protection are obsolete on those 2.
If you got around it, that means you edited. I'm not saying you can't do it, I'm just saying you have to edit to get there. Otherwise the VTS_01_1.VOB would still be there causing problems.
Three out of four of those films you mention I [bold]have[/bold] copied usign only DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter alone. The [bold]only[/bold] editing I've done is using re-author mode in DVD Shrink to remove trailers and unwanted features/audio streams, nothing else. But, I take it you still won't believe me when I say I am watching a copy of Narnia now on my TV and have other films that "can't" be copied using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. EDIT: Just read your last reply and can say VTS_01_1.VOB is still there.
Well, the author said "they stole the code without my permission". As for "giving credit" they did so after they got some correspondence asking WTF was up. I guess they also gave him a free copy of AnyDVD too. My point is that it's a free tool, they ripped off the code, and are now making money from it as part of AnyDVD. Pretty sleazy IMO.
@ZebUK How about you post a screenshot please, as I got the same message as brobear and would really like to see how Shrink is doing this.
All i know is CloneDvd2 worked and in 15mins I had a perfect copy of Narnia...ready to go. I'll try that first when working with difficult dvd's! I just downloaded a free version of it

File mode will report problems (missing sectors I think) and although reads the disc, DVD Shrink reports an error and quits. Follow my tutorial - I'm trying to help
this whole Decrypter/ISO read lark was discussed in great depth here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/286536 and if i recall correctly Decrypter was proven to not be the be-all and end-all without help from PSL files or whatever
- help is good, it's just some movies can be done with just Shrink and/or Decyrpter, not all. i can't remember what i used to do Narnia
Jigen Like butts, opinions are something everyone seems to have. In the business world, if something isn't copyrighted or patented, it's fair game. Nothing sleazy about it. If Slysoft is sleazy according to your concept, that makes just about every software author and manufacturer guilty. Let's just say the world is a sleazy place. Let's see, Dell didn't invent the CPU, but they use them. Dodge builds cars, but they didn't invent the engine. All those appliances that use electricity, the manufacturers didn't invent electricity. People are constantly borrowing from the general pool of knowledge. As I mentioned, if it's not copyrighted or patented, it's fair game. @ZebUK Starting that thread on "how to" is just double posting as far as I'm concerned. There's no big secret about editing and doing movie only to get a backup. Plus you didn't mention it will take forever to do a rip, even in ISO, without setting ignore errors and 0 retries. What are your ripper settings by the way. I have ignore errors and 0 retries and the software is at only 5% of the rip about 20 minutes later. It's still cranking through VTS_01_1.VOB with those "Failed to read Sector" errors.
i've closed the other one so it can be continued here, however that epic thread that i linked to above, will show that Decrypter needs helps with some of the newer films..Brobear will recognise that thread
What??? It doesn't take forever, ignore errors were not changed and I got no retry errors. Seems creaky can't accept what I'm saying and has to close my other topic. I had tried to reply to it saying that all the Disney (including new ones) that I've copied for my sister's children have caused me no problem and that I only use Shrink and Decrypter with no PSL files, no editing, no extra programs or anything else. At the end of the day my copies play without any problems whatsoever and I'm not going to waste my time any further by trying to argue this out. If I come across a DVD I can't copy then I will come back and apologise but until then, I'll always carry on doing what I'm told can't always be done.
Thanks for reminding me Creaky, that was a classic. I'm also amazed at the lengths people will go to use some freeware over retail that does a better job. As for Narnia, it's one of the easiest movies I've ever backed up and it doesn't have to be difficult. I pointed out the easiest way with DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter and FixVTS. The only easier method I've seen done is with AnyDVD and let one of the transcoders like CloneDVD2 do the transcode and burn. I suspect if Region Free and the others are up to date on their software, they're equally as easy. Narnia has turned out to be no problem at all except for those that still aren't grounded in how to do a DVD backup and not familiar with their software options.
Different regions here Yes you can rip with Decrypter in iso, however you still have the blank frames in the beginning of the movie that will freeze your player. If you use start and end frames to edit out those blank frames you can get around the problem.
ZebUK Perhaps you can explain why Decrypter is still cranking along. It's still at 5% and about 35 minutes as I go to post this. It's at default decryption settings other than ignore errors and 0 retries. If you have any setting suggestions, I asked for those earlier. ]
Did you back up the whole movie or just movie only, besides as stated we are in two different regions. This method can work for this DVD however, if you have ARccOS and Puppetlock on the movies it will not.
