B2D327 what pissed me off with netflix is when you get a broken dvd you send it back and they still only have 3 movies in your queue where there should be an extra one to makeup for the broken one but NOOO it doesnt happen BTW when i get a broken dvd i write on it with a sharpie NO GOOD ,DISC IS SPLIT

and dr_no netflix is closed on the hoildays(and the monday after too) and closed on the weekend as where blockbuster is open at least on saturday ,so the shipments slow way down durning that time

I live in the UK and use Screenselect.

When you first join you get all your priority titles and with a quick turnaround.

After a month or two you can wait anything up to a week for a new DVD to be sent to you. And as for prioritising the titles you want the most, you might just not bother.

    Blockbuster were the same.

Now that my initial trial is over I can see how it can be irritating with these guys. My first month is barely up but the slowdown with the turnaround has begun. But for me, living in a small town with a video store that only seems to have the new releases, I still pay less to rent the movies than if I went to the store. The glass is half full, I could gripe that it isn't perfect or I could say its still better than the alternative. Guess it just boils down to whatever mood I'm in.

I use Block Busters and my son uses Netflix. I get much better service that he does and in fact, he sometimes "rearranges" my BB que to add something he can't get / hasn't gotten, from Netflix. I have not had any problems with delay of shipping. For example, this past week, I got 3 movies on Wednesday, mailed them back Thursday morning, BB sent 3 more out on Friday and I got them today. In my area, both BB and Netflix returns go to a PO box in Gaithersburn, Maryland. The PO box numbers are almost the same.

I am going to stick to Netflix as long as it stays under $1.25 per rental (my local video store is $1.10 after taxes). I got 3 more movies in yesterday, so my monthly total is now official at 22. That is not bad, but this is the first month and there was a significant slowdown after the 2 week trial.

The only problem is that I watch a lot of TV Series from Netflix, so I would need to go 1 year straight averaging 22 or more rentals per month to hopefully see all the ones I want for a reasonable price. Luckily my local video store does carry a few TV series at $1 per disc rental, so at least I don't have to rely on Netflix for everything.

Well, thank you to all, as AD has once again saved my ass. I was thinking of trying Netflix, or Blockbuster online.... Seeing this thread has made me decide to try getting off my lazy can & going to the video store.
Also, I too live in Anderson, and understand the "Anderson crap. :D

Here is some info that may help people who have Netflix...

I read everywhere that the post office does not work on Saturdays, but I guarantee you that it does. If you want to send a movie back on Saturday, make sure you go to the post office on Saturday before 1:30PM (do not go to a drop box). This way they should get the movie/movies on Monday rather than Tuesday.

Also, for those that are afraid, you should at least take advantage of the free trial (you will get about 6 free rentals). Netflix is pretty good for the first month, at least that is my experience, so even paying for 1 month is not that bad as long as you can get over 19 movies, you are getting them for less than $1 per rental (3 out plan).

I will be sure to keep you informed about my rental status in a month or so.

    Final update on Netlix.

The first month as stated, I got 22 movies with some insane delays (pretty good)

The second month I got 24 movies with little delays (very good)

The third month I got 4 movies with the worst delays. (horrible)

For the third month, I downgraded the service to 1 at a time. I received 1 movie the first week, 2 the second, 0 the third and 1 the fourth. The delays were at least 5 days for each. The funny thing is that I cleared my queue so that I could cancel and I shipped back a movie yesterday and guess what, they got it today, when all the others took from 5 to 10 days.

It is possible that keeping your queue low will somehow speed up th eservice. I remember the second month, I had no more than 8 movies in my queue and by the end, only 2 movies.

So I will say, if there are some DVDs that are very rare that you want, try out Netflix for 1 or 2 months. Get all the DVDs you want (you can maybe get 46 like I did) and then cancel. Netflix does carry tons of foreign and very rare titles, and just about every box set, so it can be worth it to some people, but it is very good (at least for me) for the first two months.

I am starting to agree. An example of Netfu$%x great service:
Month 1 and 2, similar to JaguarGod. So many movies so fast, I thought they paid next day deliverery rates. Now its month 3 a common scheme occurs where I turn in 3 movies at the same time (thursday 02-09-06), and have 2 already after the weekend on 02-13-06 but they didnt "find or recieve" the 3rd until today 02-15-06. I'll probably get that tomorrow now that I turned the other 2 back in today. How can they go to the same place the same day but mysteriously vanish for nearly a week? Time to call Scooby-Doo and the Mystery Machine!!!
