Problems with Sata2 - Nvidia 590i Chipset - AMD

I am currently running a 590sli chipset on a Foxconn motherboard, with an AMD X2 4200, with Maxtor Maxline 3 SATA2 250GB hard drive. The system randomly freezes all the time, only when I make the drive run in PIO mode, it will stop freezing, but it is so slow when in PIO. Both changing to SATA and SATA2 causes random lock ups. Can any one help me?

    Thanks

if your chipset drivers are upto date see if foxconn has a newwer bios that resolves the issue. check that your drivers are all upto date first though.
