Hi, im interested in the idea of how computer chips work, and there componants.. does anyone know where i can find some information to start? or some information on what i need to do to get started?
What sort of chips do you mean? The CPUs inside PCs, or simpler things? Try getting yourself a PIC microcontroller, and a PICStart to program it, along with some basic electronic components for it to activate (LEDs etc.) If you want to do more than just machine code, then try learning C, C++ or Java on the PC. This, however, is programming things like exes, rather than the real programming underneath. Are you familiar with the hex number system? That'll be a good start.
Thank you very much sammorris.. You have pointed me in the right direction. I already know abit about VB.NET, im wanting to be able to understand what CPU's and other componants of a chip bored. Thanks alot ill look into this
Hey, which do you think wil be best to start out a PIC microcontroller or a PIC Start iv found these two things http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=37192&criteria=PIC microcontroller&doy=21m8 and a this 1 http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=48074&criteria=pic&doy=21m8 which you think wil be a good start?
Either, but I see no reason to pay that much extra for the expensive one. Go with the cheap £20 option.
