I've not really tried what your doing but I know that you can encode your project from Mpeg2 to .VOB .IFO .BUP ready & totally compatible to burn using Nero.

Your project is a fair size tho so it'd porbably need compressing aswell.

If you've got a 4Gb Mpeg2 project by capturing on TV Card or Digi-Cam there might be certain ways to deal with it but I'm not gonna speculate on that.

I use Sonic Foundry's DVD Architect for that myself.

Once you've got .VOB .BUP .IFO from your Mpeg 2 (set .VOB size to be 1Gb in size by the way)
Open NERO then DVD > Compile a DVD > Other DVD Formats > DVD Video (it'll tell you that you can only import >BUP .VOB .IFO files)
Click on red VIDEO_TS folder then drag & drop all files over.

I use TEMGenc DvD author. It creates the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS structure (with the VOB, BUP and IFO files) to burn onto a DVD so that you can playback on a DVD player.
    Works great !!

Making DVD-R region free wont make them play in your PS2 but if you've got it mod-chipped then you will be able to play DVD-R
