Hello I have just purchased a Quad6600 cpu 2.4ghz with a P5k se motherboard. I have windows vista ultimate. I wish to overclock this cpu, however in cpuz it is showing me the core speed at 1600mhz multiplyer 6x. Shouldnt it show me 2400mhz being this chip is 2.4ghz? Same result when I run Ai booster? Im confused. I have upped the cpu Frequency to 320 stable at 32 deg. Now cpuz is showing me 1990mhz? When I enter into the bios and and check cpu information, says it is running at 2850mhz. Can anyone please explain to me why cpu-z and aI booster arent showing me the correct Cpucore speed?. Sometime is see the cpucore speed fluctuate to 2.9ghz then back down to 1.9ghz.

    Thank you in advance

Some of the new processors (I think the core 2 duos too) have a "power down" function that will make them run at a lower speed when your computer is idling or doing something that doesnt require alot of CPU power. As soon as you start a game, then the speed will increase.

Ahh yes thank you for that, i have disabled C1E in the bios however I could not find EIST in the bios, will it be under a different name?

and even though before it was running at 1600mhz, Does this mean it was still running at its full speed? Or it was but only when it needed to. Is it better to have C1E enabled or disabled? It is running At 40 Degrees now at 2980 mhz. I was just worried that it wasnt running at its full capacity before C1E was enabled. Any information on this is greatly appreciated as I am studying Pc Specialists.

    Thank You

I'm not sure but it could be that your PC manufacturer that slowed
    down your's pc's clockspeed for cooling issue's.
