The firmware on his burner may need an upgrade.

He found out that Nero 6 only burns DL + R's,and not -R's,supposedly.So he is upgrading to Nero 7.Thanks again.

upgrading to nero 7 will not help either, it is what the drive(burner) is capable of doing,
in other words nero 7 will not burn -R DL if the burner cant.

    edit
if i understood ur post right

Your friend needs to upgrade to Verbatim +R DL discs only, book typed to DVD-ROMs; and forget about burning those beauties with Nero, and use ImgBurn for building those ISOs and writing those ISOs to +R DLs. Let ImgBurn select the layer break. Match made in Heaven.

Will DVDDecrypter work just as well or is there enough of a difference where you still recommend ImgBurn?

I would and do use ImgBurn since it's the update for DVD Decrypter. It can rip movies to hard drive without help now. I still have and use both programs at times. I always use ImgBurn for my DL Verbatim +Rs along with AnyDVD.
