The case is important to a degree since it's not really about the number of fans, more their size and where they're placed, heck, even which brand of fan you use. Stock coolermaster ones are rubbish, yet the positioning and opportunity for coolermaster cases is excellent.

dragnandy, what socket is the new cpu as old cpu socket is most likely 478? if new cpu is a prescott dye then make certain your bios can run prescott cpu's because if not then won't post.

SSDrifter, edit your sig to conform to forum specs ASAP. yours is 530x210.
    2. An image-only signature should be less than 50kb in size, and be at most 500 pixels wide and 200 pixels tall.

GTR35, edit your sig to conform to forum specs ASAP. yours is about 14 lines which includes the spaces.
    1. Text-only signatures should have at most 5 lines of text.

Waymon3X6, edit your sig to conform to forum specs ASAP. yours is 4 lines of text.
    4. If you want to use both text and image in your signature the image should not be more than 500 pixels wide and 100 pixels tall, and you can use up to three lines of text.

how high can your board goto in cpu speed? you won't be able to run a prescott dye cpu on that board.

Dig up the motherboard's product page on the manufacturer's website. If your current CPU's a Willamette I'd think it unlikely that the board would support a 3.2Ghz Prescott. I could be wrong though.
As for the temperatures, download a program called speedfan.

unless that board is fairly new then won't read a prescott. had that problem on my 2nd previous board & i was running a 2.4 celeron at the time.

most likely but 1 that is compatible with your videocard & your ram. if your ram is sdram & not ddr then need new ram too so might as well get new socket 775 board & cpu, new ram & new videocard unless use onboard video.

The only thing I can suggest is to try finding another skt478 CPU, but it'd have to be an old one, quite possibly even just another Willamette, in which case I probably wouldn't bother. Stick with what you've got until you can afford to replace the stuff. Is your Geforce 4MX a PCI version? If it is you can keep that if you buy a new motherboard/cpu/ram combination.

    i have 3 slots for my ram, i filled it with a 125mb,256mb,and a 512mb.

my computer right now is a prebuilt, IBM netvista A22P. the motherboard name is ibm 229221u. so far i just upgraded the ram, and im adding a dvd drive for christmas =]. i also got a different HDD.

if theres no cheap motherboard to support them, them maybe ill use my 3.0ghz pentium 4 for my future custom built computer that i plan on getting, and keep this current computer at a 1.6ghz.

i believe my video card is gpu.
