One of my online buddies just asked me about ripping and burning times as compared to a PC. He has a G4 powerbook, a superdrive and he uses Mac the Ripper. So, my fellow forum members who worship at the altar of Apple, how does Mac the ripper stack up to DVDShrink or DVDDecrypter as far as ripping times?? What are the best programs he can use for ripping and burning??? I did read the guide at the top, I was just wondering if there are any other programs that you users may favor that were not listed. Thank you!!!!
Ripping times depend on how fast your DVD drive can read CSS encrypted DVDs and not on how fast your CPU is.
Thanks for the response .. dude.. is that your set up in your sig?? sweet!! Anyway..I asked about the software because at least in the PC world, some rippers are faster than others, so i was curious if this was the same in the exalted world of the Mac and also wondered if the PC software had an edge or not. Thanks again.
I have never used DVDShrink or DVDDecrypter so I do not know how they compare to Mac rippers. I guess it is more less the same speed wise. As I said earlier the read speed of your DVD drive is what really holds you up when ripping. You may get more info at the Mac The Ripper forum: http://www.ripdifferent.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=26 For DVD backups I use: Ripper: Mac The Ripper or YadeX Compression: DVD2OneX or DVDRemaster Burn: Toast 6.1 Titanium If I want to rip to mpeg4 (H.264) I use Handbrake. And yes the signature is my set up (rev. A G5 DP 1.8 and 20" Cinema Display).
