    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows of a converting program from mpeg1, mpeg2 etc to divx/xvid that is quite fast at the converting because the fastest i have finishes in about 50 mins.

    thanks

it really depends on the codec.
some settings will go faster, and some will slower.
GMC is one that will slow you up.

other than that the filters you applied, if none, that will be the fastest.

and if you're using virtualdub make sure to use fast recompress, but this means you can't use vdub's filters. so use avisynth's.

    try auto gordian knot

    Hi

To be honest there are significent differences between the encoders. Tmpegenc takes an age but the results are good. My brother and I tried out loads of different encoders to see what encodes the fastest but with the best quality video.

We basically found that for the time taken and quality of the results that "Mainconcept" seemed to be the quickest.

It is worth remembering that AMD processors fall a bit short when compared to Pentium 4's for video encoding.

I forgot to say 50 minutes is not a bad time if the film is around a hour and a half long. I dont think that you will get much faster than that unless some body knows any different

tmpgenc is slow, but thats mpeg1/2 encoder.
QuEnc is faster than tmpg. cce, never tried.

can we say xvid as an encoder ?
don't think so, its a codec...
but whatever as long as it works eh.
