well i have this old HP pavilion 6648c. i upgrade the ram, 2 stick of 128mb and one stick of 256mb total is 512mb. It was running ok but now the comp slow and i check in system info, it shown only 128mb. that mean i would have 2 bad stick, and my ? is how come when i go into setup and see the memory bank 0 is 128mb and memory bank 1 is 128mb and memory bank 2 is 256mb. why ? and i am really confussss. thanx for and advice, input..etc.
try each stick by itself in each slot to see which 1 is bad or a bad slot. also use a pencil eraser on the gold contacts on the ram to remove oxidation.
i did try each stick at time, only two sticks are working. but when i put them together, it only shown 128mb in system info. could it be that the max ram it takes?
looks like it according to this link. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/..._page=prodinfoCategory&cc=ca&docname=bph05438
I had the same problem with my wife's H-P,try updating the bios as I did, after the update I was able to install 512 mb. as opposed to the 64 (128 max) that it came with. Good luck! B.W.
