    Hi,

I am having a problem using Nero 6 and a 4x LG burner. When Nero starts up a burn, the "used read memory" goes to 100% but as soon as the lead in is finished and burning starts the read memory falls to 50% and stays there. Nero says the burn is at 4x but it takes twice as long as it should, so I am wondering if it is due to the decreased read memory. I am using a P111 with 384 MB of ram and use McAfee's memturbo utility for memory management. I know the system, burner and media are good for 4x as I used to burn at this speed but have recently done a reinstall of my OS and am now experiencing this problem. None of the burns fail, they just take twice as long. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi Rotary,

I have enabled DMA on the burner, and have disabled it, rebooted and then re-enabled it and rebooted just to be sure. I also used Device Manager to remove the drive and re-install it as well. No luck so far. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Hi,

I have only uninstalled the device. I am using W98se but have an installed ASPI layer. I will have to check what Nero says about the drive and ASPI layer and get back to you. Thank you for your help so far.

    Hi,

Nero shows the ASPI layer installed and working properly, and DMA enabled on the drive. It also shows the correct RAM for the system. Do you think that the cache tuning in memturbo would have anything to do with this problem, or is it something else? Thanks.

    Yes,

I turned off memturbo and tried another burn. Same problem - used read memory drops to 50% and the burn takes twice as long as a 4x should. Do you know if the read memory is just system RAM?

It's taking 1/2 hour to burn a full disk. Nero shows the burn starting at 4x and counts down from 15 minutes, but takes twice as long to complete.

1.) Out of curiousity, why disable MemTurbo?

My burns take a little longer than I see some post and I use MemTurbo. I have 1.5 GB of memory installed and granted, mostly use MemTurbo to recover from proggys that don't play nice (memory leaks, etc.)

How much benefit will been seen from turning off MemTurbo?

B.) My system is using SPTI instead of ASPI. Would I see an increase in performance by forcing ASPI?
