    Hi all,

I'm a beginner to this Re-writing business. I want back up some files on my computer that are important to me but for some reason I cant.

I brought my computer with a Philips PBDV1640P DVD/CD Re writer built in.

Now I tried last night to back up my files and I cant!!!

when I go to the device manager to see if the drivers are working properly it says:

"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

I click troubleshoot and nothing happens.

Any help would be much appreciated.

PS: when i go into my computer there is no drive there either it just has the (C:) and (A:)

    Thank you for your help.

If after checking the drive is present in the Bios and uninstalling the controller with the device manager has no effect, try this from Microsoft. It was recently updated for Win XP.

    Assuming you are running XP.
This method of correcting the problem involves removing registry entries.
You might want to create a Restore Point before beginning.

Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore >Create a Restore Point > Next, then follow the prompts.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
(Method 2: Manually delete the registry entries)

If one of the values referred to is not present (UpperFilters or LowerFilters)then just remove the one that is present.
If neither are present - well you won't be able to do it anyway.
